I have installed the Sunday Chip mod on my V1.1 XBox. (No IR - just the mod chip.)
With the FlashBIOS jumpered to 3.0.1 when I hit the power switch quickly the system will start, the power LED will turn solid green for about five seconds, then will start blinking green for another five seconds, then will turn solid orange and stay that way. The TV display is blank during all this time and never changes. There is no sound coming from the TV.
If I power on by holding in the power switch for a few seconds then the MS BIOS will boot like normal and the system is fine.
With the FlashBIOS jumpered to 3.0.3 the system will only boot into the MS BIOS no matter what I do.

I have triied the following:
1. Resoldered all contacts.
2. Used a multimeter to check continuity everywhere I can. (10K from the four LADn to pin 15 of LPC, etc.)
3. Checked voltages on the Sunday card with power on.
4. I am using the basic MS AV composite TV cable that came with the system.
5. I have a MS controller plugged in to port 1.
6. The original DVD drive from this unit is kaput. I have a generic PC DVD drive plugged in. I intend to make this XBox a Linux-only system and do not care about playing XBox games on it..

I have an oscilloscope and am comfortable troubleshooting this but I need some help into what to do next.

This is an odd situation where it could be a couple thing.
For one the 3.0.3 and 3.0.1 problem could both be D0/LS connection haviong trouble pulling the xbox to ground. Basicly this problem only affects 1.1's and only about 3% of those. You can try the bottom D0 one the 1.1 to the D0 pd on sunday and run the top D0 to Ls on Sunday and should help this.

Anyway all indications point toward D0 or the need for special D0 considerations on the 1.1. Try 2 D0's or something and if that doesn't work reply and we'll walk through some stuff on the scope.

Sunday,
Sorry - I did not totally understand your reply. I do understand that you are saying there is the possibility that the LS connection on the Sunday board may not have enough umph to pull the D0 connection on the motherboard all the way down reliably. Are you saying I should instead move the wire from the LS connection on the Sunday board to the normally unused D0 pad on the Sunday board? Or are you suggesting something a little more involved than that?

OK - I reread your post and I think I get it now. You are saying that I should leave the LS-D0 connection I already have and in addiition I should connect the D0 pad on the Sunday board to the D0 circuit on the motherboard. I presume this will double the pull-down capability of the Sunady board?

He's (Sunday) saying that you should connect the d0 via on the motherboard to the d0 pad on the modchip. If you like, you could also jumper the LS pin on the modchip to the d0 pad on the modchip for more pull-down support.

He's also suggesting that you try both d0 vias on the motherboard (top and bottom).

(i've sent you an email already xaust)

Before I go too much further testing this I have two questions related to my setup:

Will the FlashBIOS (either one) work if I do NOT have a DVD drive attached to the system?

Related question, will the FlashBIOS work if I have a regular PC DVD drive attached to the system? The yellow DVD drive cable is not attached to anything.

Got it all working. I can reliably boot into Bank 1 (3.0.1). I have burned Cromwell 2.40 into Bank 2 and that is working great.
I ended up with LS on the Sunday card attached to D0 on the bottom of the XBox motherboard AND D0 on the Sunday card attached to A0 on the top of the XBox motherboard. That's right - A0. I was shooting for the D0 via but got confused and ended up attaching to the A0 via (they are right next to each other). With both of these mods attached the Sunday card behaves perfectly! I tried moving the A0 wire to the correct spot - the D0 via - but that still was not reliable.
I have absolutely no idea why the Sunday card behaves so well with the mods I have but at this point I don't really care.

Also to answer my own questions about the DVD drive, it turns out that the FlashBIOS will boot just fine if there is no DVD drive or a PC generic DVD drive attached.

I know that D0 - D3 on the Xbox do not carry any data and basicly they don't run through.

Basicly the CPLD is converting A0 to a 1 in all cases I wonder what you get if you tie A0 high? It should be no change but easier on the system.

You've basicly figured all there is to figure out, yes D0 didn't sink hard enough to ground and the flashbios doesn't need any drives to boot or network flash. I am kinda at a loss to explain grounding A0.
