Posted: Fri Sep 09, 2005 11:58 pm Post subject: XLNK KAI: How to Setup Xbox for free Online Gaming (XBMC)
When I hook up the cable after I have a game (such as Halo2) loaded No light on the network card lights up or anything, it give a message like "could not establish a connection""perhaps your cable is unpluged".
When trying to hook up to XKAI the light comes on but does not connect it gives a "error/Networking" something message. If you could help me out i would really appreciate it. Thanks alot. _________________ Evolution X Dash {Evolution X Dash

ok.. So obviously your trying to use XLINK KAI right??
1. Download XLINK Software for your PC:
- Make sure you have the XLINK KAI SOFTWARE install onto a pc on your network..
2. You need to have a username and password for xlnk..
Its free and easy to signup so go and do it if you havent already on the official website above.
3. Once you have that installed you need to conifgure your XBOX to use XLINK..
Open XBOX MEDIA CENTER and go into your SYSTEM SETTINGS (preferences) and choose 'PROGRAMS'.. Once you open that page you can enter all your xlink information.
4. Enter XBOX Xlink info
On the programs page (under system settings) fill our the form with your XLINK USERNAME and XLINK PASSWORD.. You also have to tell XBOX MEDIA CENTER what pc is running the XLINK PC software..
eg. 192.168.0.1 (ip address).. Thats the ip address of my computer which runs XLINK!
5. Thats about it.. Reboot your xbox once you have filled in all the xlink kai options and now you should be able to browse rooms etc etc.
If you are running a router you will need to open additional ports to play!
Your nearly there.
FORWARD PORTS ON YOUR ROUTER FOR XLINK/XBC:
1. Open a web browser and enter your routers ip address
eg. http://192.168.0.100
2. Login using your admin username and password
3. Click on the 'Applications & Gaming' tab or 'Security Tab' depending on what brand of router you have.
4. Click on 'Port Range Forwarding' or 'Port Forwarding' depending on your model/make of router
5. Now below i will list the following ports you need to forward..
You need to forward the ports to your pc which is running the XLINK or XBC tunnelling software.. In my example the PC which runs XLINK/XBC is 192.168.0.1
Ill list the ports i have forwarded and XLINK works like a charm.
I play online just about every night..
XLINK PORTS FOR YOUR ROUTER:
APPLICATION: XBC (XBCONNECT)
START: 8602
END: 8602
PROTOCOL: BOTH
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.1 (PC RUNNING XBC TUNNEL CLIENT)
6.Dont forget to restart your router by switching it off for a few seconds too.. Ive noticed with some firmware it wont open the ports until the next reboot..
Thats it.. You should now be able to play online!

If you can already ftp intp your xbox then you are ready to go really.
You just need to tell your xbox (media center) where xlink server is.. Thats the PC running the XLINK softwarr.. You have to put in your PC's ip address into the XLINK settings on your xbox.. Then you are good to go.

if you are running DHCP just turn your xbox dashboard into DHCP mode (automatic). It will pick up and give your xbox a unique ip address but the problem will be it will change everytime you reboot.. Thats why i use STATIC..
So, What you need to do is look for the ip once it reboots and then you can connect via ftp using ftp client software like FLASHFXP etc etc on your pc.
heres the ftp info to connect once you know your ip:
connection: my xbox
ip: my ip address (192.168.0.1)
port: 21
user: xbox
pass: xbox

Just a quick question: When I have my xbox hooked up to the PC for FTP, etc. I can't connect to the internet. To connect to the net, i have to unplug the 'box from my computer. Its like i can't use the router(DHCP) and network card(Static) at the same time. Which I guess means I can't use Xlink at the moment. Any suggestions? Thanks,

hi,
Sorry im not sure i understand what you mean..
How is your xbox connected to your pc???
1. via crossover
2. network cable..
Really it doesnt matter.
Whats your setup..
1. Router
2. USB MODEM
Ill do my best to walk ya through it.. Ive setup plenty of times on mine and friends machines.. Good fun too for freee. Just like XLIVE.. You can even chat with some of the titles.
You should do a ipconfig /all on your pc to find out what your settings are for the router/interent dns etc etc.. Write them down.
To do ipconfig do this:
1. Click Start Menu and choose run
2. type 'cmd' and press enter (without the '')
3. now when the window comes up type 'ipconfig /all' and press enter
4. It will display all your info.. Copy and paste it here..
I will help you give your xbox a ip address that works on your current network with your router and will setup so you can get news, and other info onto your xbox at anytime.. Its not that hard anyhow.

ok..
Look sweet from here.. So you can ftp into your xbox just fine eh..
Thats good.. Does the news work and can you xbox see the internet??
I see your using a ADSL USB MODEM to connect so maybe you might want to turn on INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING for your adsl modem in the connection properties area (advanced)..
Once you are shring the internet through your USB modem to any other computers your xbox will work just fine.
Then you can install XLINK software onto your pc and continue to config.

Actually since you have a spare NETWORK CARD there the REALTEC why dont you use a crossover cable and setup that network connection just for your xbox??? That would be the best way..
Connect a crossover cable to the REALTEC network card in your pc directly from the XBOX and then configure only the REALTEC network to:
ip: 192.168.0.1
sub: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.1
do the same on your xbox but give your xbox a unique ip address.
Then when you share the internet it will share to that network card..
hope you see what i mean.. If i was there i could setup in 5 seconds for ya.

To FTP to xbox, i plug it into the network card, with a crossover cable. All works fine.
To connect xbox to the 'net, i use the crossover cable, directly into the USB modem, and enable DHCP on the xbox. works fine.
But when i have the xbox connected to network card (FTPing), the PC won't connect to the net. The only wat is to unplug the xbox, and restart internet explorer.
So im guessing i need to change some settings, so i can have the xbox connected to the PC at the same time as the PC is on the net.
Thanks heaps! _________________

exactly.. Try bridging the network.. Those 2..
Hopefully it will work then..
If not you will need to conifgure you second network to use the same SUBNET and ip range as your ADSL MODEM Ok..
Well im just thinking off the top of my head for now anyway..
Good luck with it and keep replying.. If other members have info they will surely reply.
