apparantly you have to errr hard to explain so.
XB 1 has error 16 XB 2 does not but is modded.
take XB2's hdd put it in XB1 then put the old hdd in and a differant error comes up but you can still play games and load AID
am i correct?

and instead of puttin XB2's hdd into the XB1 can you put XB1's hdd into a computer boot it up then take it out and put it back into XB1 and the other error comes up instead of error 16
(remember im still a no0b but im also a fast learner)

ok bear with me as i try to go thru your questions here lol ....

NO, first you must unlock xb 2's hdd and then lock it to xb1 otherwise you will get an error that you can't load aid up with cause the softmod cant load.

Well you first have to use hard drive manager when you hook up the hard drive so you can format it CORRECTLY for the xbox to read it, then you have to rebuild the c and e drives (using hdm hard drive manager). then you will have a working hdd, but to use hard drive manager, you need the eeprom file from the XB1 that you can only get when its modded.

you need a chip, or someone who has a chip to correctly fix XB1 if you do not have its eeprom on file

lol you're so worried, calm down i know you want it fixed but honestly ... that mistake is how i STARTED getting into the modding community because i had no idea what to do cause i moved the dashboard files after my friend had modded and then he just left lol. if you really dont wan tto learn and just want it done for you .. you can ship it to me and i'll do it for free ... it will only take me 10 mins lol OR I can walk you step by step on how to get everything or you can try the hotswap./.... i never liked hotswap because i was never good at it ... but we have some great tuts here on HQ! post a reply or PM me directly, good luck buddy

I messed up my Xbox too. I have a error 16. And I'm a uber noob to getting this type of stuff. Sad
So, I softmodded (or tried to) and deleted my entire HDD. I never got my eeprom nor got a backup of my drive. I tried hotswapping, and with the MS dash files I used, it didn't work. I used the Shademand's Readymade Softmod thing and that worked except there was no MS dash. I tried hotswapping again and took that off and there isn't anything on really any of the partitions.

So here I am looking around for someone to assist me. What do I do?
Do I just keep trying to hotswap with different MS files? Can someone upload and post their HDD files so I can try that? Or atleast the MS files? Will that even work if I put the files onto the drive?
I'm a bit confused.
I downloaded AID 3.0 with 3.03, and am downloading SlaYers via bittorrent, will the files in either one of those work?
I read up on a little bit and the XboxHDM came up. Do I use that rather than a regular hotswap using Xplorer360?

Someone told me that when you get a error 16, unplug the cdrom drive's ide cable and instead of 16 you'll get 11 and it'll be automatically unlocked and easier to access the HDD... then use XboxHDM to put the files on the Xbox. I haven't tried that yet though. Work?

K, here's the deal:

If you have no eeprom backup, you really have two options: hotswap or install a chip. Lets just stick to hotswap.

Some background info you should know about: the xbox has a chip in it called an eeprom chip. This contains information unique to each xbox. The information in the chip is used with information about the HDD to calculate a password. This password is used at the MS factory to lock the HDD. When the xbox powers on, it takes the HDD info and the info from the eeprom chip and recalculates the password, and uses that to unlock the drive. From there, the files can be accessed by the Mobo.

So, if the files on the HDD get corrupted, deleted, moved, etc, the xbox has a problem(obviously). However, since nothing on the HDD is used to unlock itself, the HDD is still unlocked and left unlocked for a little while. If power to the HDD is cut, the drive relocks itself.

So, the idea behind a hotswap is this: Have the mother board unlock the HDD, and then disconnect the IDE cable from the HDD before the mobo can send the relock command when it errors out. You have to keep the power to it or the HDD will lock itself. So, you let it unlock, remove the IDD, and attach an IDE from the computer to the now unlocked HDD. From there, xboxhdm can read the files, and you can repair the partitions(like I had to do), replace the C: with the MS files, etc. Then, when you power down the computer and xbox, it relocks the drive. Reconnect your IDE, and the xbox should be able to read the HDD properly.

The trick to the hotswap is when to disconnect the IDE cable. Some people say that you remove the IDE from the DVD drive, and it unlocks the HDD while not relocking it on the error. I have a 1.6 box and this did NOT work for me. The locking of the drive is an actual physical mechanism, so you can actually hear the drive unlock. This was the most successful method with me.

So to recap: power from xbox to HDD. ide from xbox to hdd. have mobo unlock the hdd, remove ide before it relocks, attached ide from computer, use xboxhdm, power down computer and xbox, reattached ide from xbox, boot xbox, all fixed.

When its working again, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR EEPROM!. This is very important, because the eeprom.bin file is essential a dump of the info in the eeprom chip, and allows programs like xboxhdm to emulate what the mobo does and unlock the drive by calculating the password.

If this has confused you more, hopefully someone else can clarify Smile

Ok. So what I'm supposed to do is a hotswap...
I power up my Xbox, and before it shows the error, disconnect the IDE cable from the Xbox's HDD before it gets relocked by the mobo. Take out the IDE cable from the Xbox and plug the IDE cable from my computer into the HDD. But before I plug it in, on my computer, I have to put in XboxHDM (or do I put it in before I turn it on?) and use that to dump the files onto the HDD. Turn the Xbox and PC down, relock, and put back together. Then turn the Xbox back on and hope for the best.
Correct? Or do I unplug my computers hard drive and plug the Xbox's into that, somehow?
Confused Question
A detailed tutorial would be great.

There are a couple of recommended times for removed the xbox IDE and connecting the PC's. I recommend booting the PC with the xboxhdm disc already in. Let the pc boot to the xboxhdm splash screen, and before you ever touch a key, attempt the hotswap on the xbox to the PC. Once the HDD is attached to the computer, choose the selection you want from the screen, and you SHOULD be good to go, assuming the drive is still unlocked. You may have to do this several time. One time I did the hotswap I got it on the 2nd attempt, one time it took me 60+. So be patient. You'll know you got it correct when you don't get tons and tons of the same line being repeatedly printed to the screen.

In the process of doing the HDD repair, should the pc need to power down, its fine, let it power down. Just leave the xbox powered on, and then when the pc boots, the drive is still unlocked.

Check the tutorial here on how to navigate the xboxhdm menus.

Hope that helps.
