Easiest way for a beginner to convert files to DVD format to burn would be to use Nero 7. It's a very user friendly program, and if you use the "Nero Express" option, you should have a DVD ready to watch in just an hour or two (sounds long, but's come a long way, trust me).
But, my friend, you have a modded box! You don't even need to transfer it to your box (unless you don't have a network.... shame on you ). There's two things you can do. First, let's play with the option that you do have a network:
First, sit at your computer. I'm assuming you're using windows XP. Regardless of what version, click start, then control panel, then double click "User Accounts". Make sure the guest account is on.
Now, navigate to the folder you have your movie(s) stored in. For this example we'll use C:\My Stuff\Movies . Navigate to C:\My Stuff and right click on "Moveis" Now click on "Properties". When the window pops up, click the "Sharing" Tab and click "Share this folder on the network". It might yell at you for a few warnings, blah blah blah. As long as you're not sharing the root of your drive, you can just go ahead and let it share the folder.
Now, when that's done, click ok and mosey over to your xbox.
If you have AID 3 (you should, YOU SHOULD!) pop that into your box and install Xbox Media Center (hereforthwith ((or something)) referred to as XBMC). Once that's done (install it to E or F, really doesn't matter) reboot and launch your wonderful new toy.
Now, navigate to "My Videos" scrooooooool down to "Workgroup (SMB) Share" (NOT THE ONE AT THE TOP!!!). Then your xbox will search your network, find your computer (whatever it's name is) and once you select that computer, you'll find that wonderful folder you shared "Movies" smiling up at you. Select it and you'll have the time of your life watching whatever movies you rip to your computer.
*Disclaimer* We here at the xbox-hq do NOT support piracy in any way shape or form. All copies are of course assumed to be copies of movies/games/music that you already own. Any talk of piracy or asking of how and where to download said material will get you a swift kick in the ass and your posts deleted *End of Disclaimer*.
You can also do this with MP3's and Pictures. Isn't that nifty?!
Now, if you wanna be lazy about it, just burn the movies/music/pictures to a DVD pop it into your xbox, launch XBMC, go to "My Movies" and select the DVD rom drive to see the files of your choice.
But think about this. Doing it the long way first will save you discs in the future. Not to mention time if you want to encode EVERY movie back to DVD format, which can take hours. Hopefully that tutorial helped ya out, m8. Anymore questions, feel free to ask. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

YEP... I got problems........ XMBC is is erroring during install. Tried installing as an app and a dash several times, every time the error comes up during the skin extraction. I still have my original AID3 RAR files on disk and I could build another SID installer disk if no other solutions are available. Any suggestions.........apparently the file on my disk is corrupt or damaged. _________________

even though its not entirely necessary...i suggest keeping at least a gig or two of free space at all times so you arent maxing out your hdd.....therefore you need to delete a game or so and then install xbmc...you shouldnt have the rar files on your disc also....you unrared them using winrar correct?...good luck....later _________________ Xbox V1.6

XBMC usually runs around 180 - 300 megs, depending on who compiled it and what came with it. As with your erroring out during install, reburn it (using DVD Decrypter www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/ ) it'll burn a lot "smarter" and probably save your disc in the end .
Also, what Yoshie said is right (almost always is, lol). Always try to keep at least a gig or two free, especially since you are now running (or will soon be) XBMC, you're going to need some space for Cache and such. when streaming over the network it's always best to keep your hardrive a little free, ya know?
And another thing: if anything you download comes with a pdf or even just a .txt manual, read it. In the end, it just might save your ass. Especially with XBMC. for the Wikki manual on XBMC, go here:
Thanks got it working.............alot of neat stuff to learn in XBMC. Tried a DiVX that was in AVI format all went well, but tried a XviD in AVI format and I got no sound coming from disk, will have to work on it to figure all the different formats out. Thanks again. _________________

I've had no problem with XBMC playing anything, XVID (even the ones Nero Showtime says are too high rez or something), Real movie, Ipod Mp4's (video and audio) .bin/.cue's and all of those formats FROM multiarchived .rar's (.rar .r01, .r02, etc..) without extracting. Really quite amazing. Even plays .iso's straight out of .rar's. I love that program and will be using it well after I get my 360. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
