I'm having also some problems with my 4.5 n-knave, i installed it with dual boot retail and when I boot with the drive open I get Error 21. I tried restoring C and E from backup and installing the softmod again and I get the same error when I try to boot with the drive open. Any suggesions.
I would be more than content with switching over to the single boot, but when I try to uninstall the mod, I get errors and if I install over the mod I get the same error 21 when the tray is open.
Additionally, when EvoX was installed, no "skins" folder was included. Therefore I cannot change skins. I even tried creating a skins folder, but it did not work.

From the "softmod" menu of AID, you need to unmount the virtual c: patition. Once you have done that, you will be able to remove the softmod.
You can also install the softmod from AID.
Once you have the softmod reinstalled, install the EvoX dash from the "install dashboards (soft)" menu. This will install the skins folder. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

When I try to "unmount the virtual c: partition" it immediately reboots and goes to the error 21 screen.
As far as the skins folder is conerned, I have been using AID and that's how I get the "skin" folder installed on my first xbox. For some reason, I haven't been able to get the softmod working properly on this one.
I have tried everything in AID. Formatted, restored from backup, FTP'd original backups to the xbox, installed softmods to the from AID. Nothing I do get the open tray retail boot to function properly.

Sounds like your c: patition has corrupt files.
Find in the "back up" menu of AID create m$ backup from AID. Make a back up. From there you should be able to uninstall SID. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

When I go to "Create MS backup from AID" it briefly says "extracting" then gives me an error box with no text.
This is not the first time I have seen an error message. When I try to re-install the softmod, just after the c:shadowimage copies I get en error message that says "An Error occured while copying "E" Error Code 0. Then I get two blank error boxes in a row and a message that says "Softmod Successfully installed. You must now turn off your ebox.... blah blah blah.
After is restarts, it completes the installation and boots to Evox without issue. However it will not boot open tray retail and I am back at square one. I know something must be corrupt, but I don't know enough about it to solve the problem myself.
The really strange part is that when I recover my orginal C and E folders and start over, things are fine with exception to the open tray retail function. However, when I re-install the softmod not only can I not use the open tray option, but if I unplug the xbox for 5 hours then turn it on, I get the error 21 regardless of how I try to boot. I must then pop in Mechassault and start over.

Now I am starting to think that the AID ISO that I created is corrupt. I am going to start from scratch and make a new ISO. I get batch error messages on other things too.

Well, I burned another ISO and this time I got a batch error while installing AID to my G drive. I suspect that the AID fles I have are corrupt. Gonna re-download them and see what happens.

IF the AID iso file unrars normally, than it's nothing to do with the files, don't waste your time redownloading them, instead try different media, CDRW and DVD-+R, some xbox DVD roms have problems reading discs sometimes, I have 2 xboxes, 1 with Hitachi and 1 with a Philips, and all my discs and dvds read fine on the Hitachi, but Philips sometimes gives dirty disc error, or errors on UnleashX based uncompressing scripts, and this is what AID uses. _________________ Xbox v1.1

I'll try different media. I tried Ritec and it got me pretty far, but I get errors during certain key operations. I burned one with memorex and I couldn't get anywhere.
I've been pulling my hair out over this. It's funny that the problem might be the DVD's. Wonder if the lens on the drive might be dirty.

This is becoming quite frustrating. When I try to re-install SID4.5 I continue to get the "error occured while copying 'E"
I also get the following error message while trying to install AID to G or when trying to do the "One Click Insall"
Batch process failed,
The last item was: .
Action: Rename
Assuming that my problem is media related, can anyone recommend a good brand of media that works in most xboxes? I have tried sony, ritek, and memorex. I am going to try leaving the dummy file out next time.
Also, can a moderator transfer this post to the VIP forums? I have VIP access and continued this thread in the wrong place.

Are you using aid 3.01?
quote When I go to "Create MS backup from AID" it briefly says "extracting" then gives me an error box with no text. unquote
from aid 3.0:
format c and e
install msdash 5960
backup eeprom
create ms backup
install softmod.
and it's work.

I tried your steps below after you posted them and serveral times previously. I am stuck. I don't know if it was a backup problem from my original SID4.5 softmod, or something with AID.
I tried several types of media and I still get the Batch error on serveral operations. Specifically when trying to re-softmod or install AID to the hard drive.
No one seems to know what my problem might be.

At this point, I would start over. Hotswap with only the m$dash files ( bring the hdd back to retail).
To mod, try using SID3 and AID 2.11. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS
