Hi, I'm new to this and is considering to mod my XBOX with SID 4.5 now that I have my XBOX360. I've read the tutorials and such and am wondering if the AR/Gameshark hardware that enables you to write to the memory card is essential. What I have is mind is to use the SmartJoy X2 USB Adapter to hook up my controller to the PC, put the memory card in it (there's a driver for it) and transfer the files either directly (copy & paste), or through the AR software (assuming it can detect the memory card)

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=83&products_id=2701&

I haven't bought anything yet, but Splinter Cell is easy to find here (Australia) for next to nothing, and if that cable works, I will buy it instead of the AR/Gameshark (They seem pretty expensive as I didn't plan to use it for anything else). I also realize that the file is in Zip/Gsx state and those are most likely not what an XBOX will recognize as a save file. Assuming all those thing I mention on top works, will a simple unzip of the zip file be enough for it to be recognized by the XBOX?

So will that works? Or I'm just talking nonsense there =b Thanks for any answers

As long as you have an official MS memcard it should work fine, you might have to force the AR drivers on it instead of the drivers that you have, but it should work without any trouble. The only issue I know of is that the AR software might be made to only work with their hardware and the ms memcard will have a slightly different ID, this is easily fixable with a program called USB View.

the files have to be zipped . and its alot of work so i think your better off just buying the ar kit ... it has a 8mb mem card which comes useful it has the software disc and the usb to mem card adapter so your good to go ... just pretty much plug transfer and play ..... or in this case mod lol

Seeing that I live in Australia, I got hit by Datel as they sell their products in AUD at almost twice the USD price. The current online price is USD30, which is AUD 39, but I'll be charged for AUD 70, and that's before shipping. Then the AR they got is USA version (which I'm not sure whether it'll work in Australia XBOX). They also ship only inside the USA (which defeats the purpose of offering the product in several currencies)

I guess I won't be modding it.

The method you described works fine, no reason to not mod it really, it's just easier to use an AR.

Hmm, ok. Just one last confirmation, the save file read by the XBOX is in zip format right? The AR didn't change them into something else right?

edit: My mem-card is this 8MB Mad Catz officially licensed memory unit... Dunno whether it will work or not lol

We have a great tutorial on how to use your own media for the AR software,

http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-194.html

The AR software takes the ZIP and will convert it into the filesystem that the xbox can read (FATX) plus it also unzips it and stores it correctly on the mem card.

Phew, finally today I got the XBOX modded. Now I'm planning to download the AID and play around with it. Any other interesting mods I should be aware of? Thanks for all the answers given when I was figuring out how to do this!
