I've just softmodded my xbox (pal, crystal, v1.6) to the Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v4.5.Nknave.Edition (with Auto.Installer.Deluxe.v3.0.Xbox-Hq), works perfect so thank you for your amazing work!!!
what about the newest pal xboxes (mine is from 2004-08-05, so v1.6, but latest from 2005 are newer versions?)? are they all softmod'able? which is the safest softmod to use for them?
question about v4.5 Nknave: can I only get into installation menu through gamesave exploit?
another thing: I first tried to install v4.5 Nknave through gamesave exploit, but error at end of installation: something on E, shadow.img and c.zip problem... (why?), so I installed Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq which went perfect, then I installed v4.5 Nknave through Auto Installer deluxe v3, which went flawless!
question about Auto installer deluxe v3:
what I did:
- format C
- MS dash backup from AID3
- Install 5960 MS dash
- backup eeprom
- install softmod dashboard
- install softmod 4.5 Nknave dual boot open=retail
I dont get difference/the point of installing softmod dashboard and installing Softmod? sounds like same thing to me?

The difference between installing the softmod dashboard and the softmod... A dashboard is the menu that comes up when you turn your xbox on. There are many different dashboards to choose from... Anold, Avalaunch, EVOX, MXM, UnleashX, XBMC... When you install the softmod you are allowing the xbox to look for the dashboard that you have installed.
So, that is why you install a dashboard and a softmod
As far as the most stable version of SID is concerned... I think it is 3.0 or 4.0...I have been seeing that there are some problems with 4.5 Nkave. _________________ http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-211.html

thanks for the fast response!
question concerning the eeprom: is that loaded into a chip, or just on the harddrive?
after I uninstalled 'Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.4.5.Nknave.Edition.Xbox-Hq' I thought I would still have the backups of MS dash and eeprom, but MS dash was gone (also uninstalled?), so I probably lost the original eeprom aswell? is it changed by 'Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.4.5.Nknave.Edition.Xbox-Hq' (which didnt work, so uninstalled it), when I installed 'Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq' and afterwards formatted C and installed '4.5 Knave' succesfully with AID3 I had to back it up again, but that was the one (=eeprom) from 'Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq'?

Your eeprom can not be changed by SID...and only a few programs can actrually change the eeprom. So dont worry about thinking that you lost the origonal.
The eeprom for your xbox can be easily obtained using ConfigMagic... All you have to do is run it from the AID disk and select backup eeprom... then exit the program and restart to your dash or AID. You can then ftp into your xbox and pull the backup files off of the E:/ drive. They will be in the main directory... and named EEPROMBackup.bin/EEPROMBackup.cfg. Then all you have to do is change their names to EEPROM.bin and EEPROM.cfg while they are on your computer. Now you have a backup of the eeprom. I would highly suggest you make copies of these on different computers or USB jumpdrive...
As far as the eeprom being on the hdd or into a chip: The eeprom is coded on your xbox motherboard and hdd, the hdd and the mobo are married by the eeprom. When the xbox is turned on the mobo tries to unlock the hdd with the eeprom which has the hdd's locking and unlocking code/password on it. If the hdd's eeprom is different than the mobo's eeprom, then you wont be able to access the hdd and you will receive an xbox error code 6 (cant unlock the hdd). So, you cant use a hdd without the eeprom from the mobo on it. That's why I say to backup your eeprom to your computer. Because, if you somehow mess up your softmod and you cant load the exploited game save with the game, and you dont have your eeprom, the only other option would be to install a chip...
