Keep in mind, that you would need a USB adapter to connect whatever Hard Drive through one of the controller ports (Given that it does work, but i also doubt it does).

I have used a USB hdd on my box.
It shows up as a local hdd because of the USB-IDE device. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Well Lee you were right... I tried a 4 gig laptop hard drive with my USB adaptor. I got it to be seen with the file explorer in UnleashX. It gives the drive letter of J or L so far. It says it’s not formatted and it cannot do it. While under Avalaunch thou it doesn’t see it. I wonder if it because it’s not formatted under the FATX system..
Now that makes me wonder if I swap the other hard drive I had planned to be in there in the first place is able to be seen by the UnleashX file explorer?? I took it out and replaced it with my Samsung drive from my unchipped box..
Well, one thing I have found is that it is coded into the kernel to always show the DVD drive. It makes sense thou if you think about the developers thought of it never being modded like it has..

That's because it's recognizing as a memory card unit, and that's the reason why it's letters above F and G.
You can't lauch .xbe's from Memory card or equivalent media from port.
I've read some of this, and I understand you want to mod it, but the DVD drive is bad, correct?
If so, read pirrups hotswap tutorial, that way you can simply disconnect your DVD drive, let it boot to error 11, than perform a hotswap to install softmod files.
For this hotswap softmod install is possible with "Kingroach's Ndure 3.0" and "xboxhdm_1.9".
We would have an installer as well, but we've been lacking on time, and it's hard to keep up to the point where I have time to make the Hotswap Installer Deluxe.
If this isn't what you seeked for an asnwer, damn, I gotta read the whole post again. lol _________________ Xbox v1.1

nknave, I am honored to have your insight into this.
I have 2 xboxes, one I have placed a Smartxx v3 chip, running a Evox M8 bios. I barrowed the DVD from the non-modded box to get everything working. The drive that should be in the modded box is giving the dirty disk error. Seeing how it’s a Thompson drive, I don’t really want to use it. I still would like to have a non-modded x-box so if I would totally destroy this box, I will have something to fall back on.
So now here is my idea, I wanted to place two 250gig hard drives into my box. So I wouldn’t have carry a large amount of back up disks with me.. I know most games I have is no more than 2 to 4 gigs, but the ROMs and everything else I have will fill up the drive rather fast.. Also I wanted something that not many other people have..
So when I saw that xbox uses a single IDE controller to connect the hard drive and DVD, I thought it would handle the second drive natively. From my very limited programming knowledge I have found where in the kernel it deals with the hard drive and DVD drive. Its hard coded that it’s always will have the two. What drives me insane is the fact that linux can see the second hard drive and will allow me to write to it.. So I know the hardware is able to do it.. I just don’t know enough about programming to rebuild the kernel to add better hard drive support.
Have you seen any one work on this concept in the past?
