Im trying to put a 40gig HDD into my daughters Emachines 333cs and install XP on it. Bios sees the hard drive and I was able to install XP onto drive. After bios boots instead of windows starting I get 3 options........ start in safe mode, Start with networking etc....... No matter what I choose Windows will not start, it just continues to go back to this message. Do I need bios upgrade? If so can someone point me in the right direction....... Delhi 3 board with AMIbios...... 160Mb ram any help would be great.

You might have to play with the bios settings.

There are several possible problems here.

1 from 98 days so yea it does probably need a bios update I don't think these see anything above 8 GB with stock bios.

2. you need more Ram if it still has the stock amount of ram I think it only has 32MB, which 64MB is the very low end for XP

3. I think this was a 333 celeron and this is also on the low end of things The absolute lowest is supose to be a 233 with a 300 recomended.

My dad has two of these

edit: sorry I just woke up and didn't read the whole post, So I guess these don't fit.

If it is a new drive is the boot patition active, did XP finish install?

the memory upgrade is a definate must for windows xp the min is 128, but i recommend you take it upto 256 mb and I now know thats all your motherboard will handle.

Wow .thanks gang.......alot to sift through. By the way it is Socket 7 CyrixMII 333 processor, 160 MB ram, originally had win98...upgraded to second edt......
I dont mind putting Win98 back onto larger HDD but there is one problem I dont like....I cant get any of the USB ports to see memory sticks, Ive tried all kinds of updates and drivers. So I thought if I could get Xp on it all would be ok...
SO....I will double check that bios is seeing HDD, and other suggestions and 160mB ram should fire it up because 128Mb does it on another comp I had.
I dont know where I can get a bios update at.....DOES ANYON? AMIBIOS
I will even try another install of XP, THANKS gang..... any other ideas are welcome, put them out there.

Memorex 128Mb USB 2.0 (flash drive)........is what is printed on it. I use it at work to copy files to and transfer them to lap top etc..... You just plug it into to usb and it shows up as a drive (removable storage device). Its not for a camera or nothing like that.....

ok i have your solution, first uninstall all usb drivers and devices in safemode and then reboot and go into your bios and look for USB items that are disabled in BIOS relating to something like "Legacy Support"--it's intended to let BIOS and other OSes access the USB even before Windows drivers are loaded.

Then reinstall the drivers.
