I just received my 1.6 Universal adaptor for the X-Chip and am trying to install it into a v1.6 Xbox. It says I shouldn't need to solder any points on the board when using it. Can someone tell me how to get power to the X-Chip ( no red light ) and what the dip switches on the adaptor should be set to? The first switch is for the LFRAME on/off and the second is for the LEDs ( duh ).

Have you gotten your 1.6 solderless to work yet? I've seen other posts saying that all the lights are on, but the xchip still FRAGs.

Thanks,

Hi Leprekan, I've been having issues with the X-chip and wireless adapter, of which are still unresolved but the answer to your question is I think in the x-chip troubleshooting.pdf where it says if the red light is not on it means that either LPC #2 or #6 is not making contact with the motherboard. That is where it gets it's 5V power supply.

Just found something that might be worth trying if you are having trouble with your power supply to the xchip via the wireless adapter. I got this information from xbox-scene during a fairly random search. It seems that tihspeed and 98vtec have combined and determined that this configuration of xchip with wireless adapter often has a power supply problem which can be checked by booting up with the usb adapter plugged into your computer, if it boots up with the power supplied from the usb then it's pretty obvious.
What you have to do is solder a wire from the 5V hole on the xhip to the right leg of the transister as shown in page 41 of the X-CHIP MASTER INSTALL GUIDE.
Didn't work for me but I didn't check with usb first damn!! Good luck. Thought I'd better refer to where I got the info from, hope that's OK.

Thought I'd better add a little note to my last post. Smile
Of course you should check that the adapter is installed properly before soldering a wire to your chip, make sure all the gold wires are home and making good contact and the adapter is squarely in the lpc port and the xchip is not loose on the adapter. You may have to manully move the gold wires with long nose pliers, you obviously need a very good light source to do this. I just suspect that if the adapter is installed properly then the 5V supply will be OK, but I could be wrong Smile, as my chip doesn't work, can't test.
