wait... if I read your post correctly, you said you switched to Opera?

.................. *awkward silence*

Opera is still IE based... If you completely remove IE, opera will not work. It's evil. Use FireFox It's faster, and more reliable than any other browser I've used. Did I mention the fact that it supports skins, and extensions... IE7 is gonna be stolen from Firefox... all the tabbed browsing and chit... evil evil bill gates... I think FireFox should sue. SUE I TELL YA!!!!!!!!!!!

Good choice putting opera away for good, m8. It's a nice looking program, but flawed as hell. Firefox is fully customizable with skins, extensions, plugins, you name it, you can do it. It's great. Read the FAQ on the Firefox site, and cehck out some extensions to make your browsing experience more powerful.

Firefox is a great browser. I've been use'n it since before it was called Firefox. Can't remember what it was called "phoenix?"...

The only problems I have with it is java applets sometimes cause it to freeze or not close completely. If you ever go to start it and you get a message saying something about the default profile and create a new profile DONT DO IT! Click cancel or you could lose all your bookmarks and custom settings. Hit ctrl+alt+del and under processes look for firefox.exe. click it and then click end task. Then try to start firefox again.

This might be a problem with the java runtime enviroment and not firefox....since the last java update I've noticed IE actting a little funny too when running some java applets.

Yeah, firefox has its bugs... But it's free, and it's secure. I remember the first time I got the profile error... I was PISSED!!! I lost everything... but then I figured out how to edit the .ini file Very Happy You definitely need to know that if you wanna format and you end up losing your install.... I've kept my favs and everything through 4 formats Very Happy

And one other bug... God forbid you have a friend who has a poorly built myspace... O.O Ever seen a bad HTML layout that's supposed to be 1024x760 (or whatever) and it gets stretched to like 5 times that?! IT SUCKS... some things, you just need IE for if you want to fully enjoy it. It sucks, but "everyone" has IE...

I spent a couple hours last night installing the java vm in Kubuntu Linux and configuring firefox to use it.

I learned that browsers in Linux dont magically know you've installed java "like in Windows". You have to make a symbolic link to the java plugin file and put it in the firefox plugin folder. geeze.

I also learned that it's hard as hell to do anything with a "newbie proof" Linux distro that want let you login as root. The Kubuntu documentation said to get root permissions by type'n "su" from a terminal.....and that there is no root password, just leave it blank. Well, that didnt work. I had to give root a password before I could get root permissions.

Long story short, I have the newest java vm installed in Linux and firefox use'n it. I've not encountered any of the bugs that show up in Windows.........yet.
