I wanted a clean look on the groove on the front. I couldn't think of a better way than playdoh. Filled the groove with playdoh. I still need to clean it some more, but will give the pain more time to harden.

turn out pretty darn nice man.. I like it..
Good work and thanks for sharing..
Thanks. The ports are a little rough, but the groove turned out nice.
I have just a little more to do before putting it all together - the top is in another post. I have a 250GB HD on the way - hoping to have all the case modding done before it gets here - then I can just swap drive and be ready to screw the top on - Then I will post pics of the finished box.
One question - how should I re-attach the jewel - I started to put in on with hot glue and it looked really bad so I took it off. I installed LED's under it. I frosted it and actually don't think I like it - should have left it clear. Now I will never know. _________________ xbox v1.0 - DuoX 2 - Seagate 160GB - caught fire and is no more

Hey rausch713,
Looking good, it's coming along. Good idea with the playdoh in that crack. Don't forget to sand in between your next coat. use like 1000-2000 grit.
Also, if you want your jewel clear again, you can either wet sand it with 2000 grit, or possibly rub it with toothpaste and a soft cloth. I said possibly because i never tried the toothpaste method. Maybe clear plastic adhesive to put the jewel back on.
Good luck _________________

I have thought about that - did anyone post that tutorial I requested on how to convince your wife that you should spend more money on the xbox? _________________ xbox v1.0 - DuoX 2 - Seagate 160GB - caught fire and is no more

Be careful if you use glue to re-attach your jewel. I know with my model cars that the plastic glue eats away at paint, so don't over do it. _________________ XBOX- V1.0

Thanks for the info - I have model glue. I was leaning toward super glue - what do you think? _________________ xbox v1.0 - DuoX 2 - Seagate 160GB - caught fire and is no more

I think super glue would be fine. But like I said, don't over due it. Remember, it is really held down by gravity, you are just making sure it doesn't accidentally fall off. I would probably just do maybe 2 dabs across from each other. _________________ XBOX- V1.0

Thanks - I will wait for the paint to age a little more and then put it on. Like you said - Gravity will hold it in place until then. _________________ xbox v1.0 - DuoX 2 - Seagate 160GB - caught fire and is no more

the playdough was a brilliant idea. if you want the jewel to be clear again, you can achieve it a few different ways. one being buying one of the xbox-hq's nice custom ones, or two sanding up in with finer grits until you get to 2000.
if you go this method you are going to want to start at the next step after the last grit you used on the jewel. for example, if you used 200 grit to frost it, you are going to want to use 400 or 600 grit in your next step. take nice smooth swipes with the paper, and also use wet sandpaper so you can add a little warm soapy water to the paper and jewel. proceed onwards from 600 - 800 - 1000 - 1500 - 2000. now you are ready to buff with mag polish, or some sort of rubbing compound that you can pick up at walmart or any auto parts store. this will leave your jewel crystal clear again.
as for glue, dont use superglue because you are going to get a nasty white crust where the glue has actually melted the plastics to bond them together. use very small amounts of hotglue, so that you have a chance of removing it in the future.
