Is there any way in the evox config to change the colour? Or other software way to do it?

avalaunch can change the color. but once you load a different dash it goes back to the original color.
if you want to do it permanently, just open up the xbox, pop off the front of the xbox with a butter knife, take out the little board with the eject button ect. snip off the led's using fingernail clippers and resolder them upside down. that will change it from green to red. Smile then put it back together. soldering sounds harder than it realy is.

there is an easier way to make the light red, you can download XBtool and load you BIOS then change the color from there. Or if you want to make it premanent then yo can change some wires around. Here is how you do it.
STEP 1

Open your Xbox and remove the hard drive and dvd drive.

STEP 2

Locate the group of yellow wires next to the group of large multi-colored wires (the power connector for the mainboard). This is near the front of the Xbox and slightly off center to the right.

STEP 3

Unplug the yellow wires from the mainboard.

STEP 4

Get a magnifying glass and locate wires 5,6,7, and 8. Wire 1 is marked with a 1 and an arrow below it. Wire 2 is marked with a 2 and is on the opposite side. Wire 3 is beside wire 1.

STEP 5

Use a needle to gently pry back the tiny plastic tab that keeps the wire from coming out, then pull out the wire. You need to switch wires 7 and 8, then switch wires 5 and 6. Do not pull out all four wires at the same time because that can easily lead to confusion.

STEP 6

After you have switched the proper wires, plug the wire back into the mainboard. Wire 1 (marked with the arrow) will line up with pin 1 on the mainboard witch is also marked with an arrow. Put the hard drive and dvd drive back in place. Put the case back together and your done.

STEP 7

Enjoy the Red Glow Twisted Evil

The bios manager tool is probably one of the more popular methods. Also, one of our sponsors here www.CustomXbox.net has different color eject/power boards with various LED color combos that you can purchase to replace the existing ones.

They aren't that expensive either, and not too hard to swap out.

later all

I got it done with 2 of the left over LEDs - down to about 89. If anyone is wondering how to change the over to 5mm LEDs he is a pic - if you need a bigger one, I can Email. I didn't intend to do this, but one thing led to another - the board got damaged when I de-soldered so I couldn't re-solder to it. And for some reason, about 2 weeks ago, my soldering iron started pulling the solder onto its tip. Not sure why. Just isn't working the way it use to.

if you use XBMC you can set the led state, and it stays on durin any activity. i know its probably a bit late to tell you but it mite save you some work if not

As for turning the led from green to red or even half and half, there is no need to do any soldering what so ever, just swap pins 7 and 8 on the yellow wires that plugs into your mobo for one half and 5 and 6 for the other half. they are just a push fit.

I was looking for a bright orange rather than the yellow, red, or green. Here is the result of my labor. One side ended up a little brighter than the other, but I still like it. It will look nice at a lan party.
