I haven't heard of this in an Xbox before, but I've heard about (and seen) a few PS2s that make strange noises while trying to play DVD movies.

The games work fine, but it didn't seem to like most DVDs.

(BTW, all originals, on an un-modded PS2).

Your guess is as good as anyones, unless someone else can explain it Smile

Well it could mean your dvd rom is ready to give up or it could mean that it needs to be regreased and cleaned but the last time I heard a dvd rom grinding the motors were dying so it couldnt keep the speed up anymore.

For what it's worth, my xbox DVD-ROM sounds different when I put media in it that it cant read. Most of the time you cant even hear it, but if I put a CD-R/RW in it, it makes a "sssssst.......ssssst.....ssssst" sound as it trys to read the disc.

I would try burning the game on different media. One that you know works well with your Xbox.
I tried a disc that worked great in my friend's Xbox, and when I inserted it in mine, the Disc Drive would "grind" away. It still managed to load the game, but I took it out since I didn't like the noise. It was some cheap no-name Disc.
I have never encountered this with the Ritek media I use.
I hope that it isn't a sign that the drive is going to crap out because I just got my Xbox. Confused
Just remember that different drives like different media.
