Anyne else having a problem whereby when using DVDPlayer (not Mplayer) to play VOB's the player will arbitrarily get to a point where it will start looping several frames (in other words it will stop playing, rewind a few frames and play to that point again - then repeat.) I can restart things by backing out (hitting B) but it does it on everything I've tried and has happened with the last three builds (most recent 03 Oct 05).

If I start playing at the beginning I can forward up to the point it freaked out and it will play just fine until it decides to do it again.

Mplayer works perfectly on the same files.

Thoughts?

boing!

I'm having the same problem. Basically DVD's get to a certain point and then just "hang". I'm going to try to increase my XBox memory to 128MB and see if that helps. I know that when it actually starts failing, the memory is down pretty low (I also know they have many memory leaks that over time end up sucking up your available shared memory). I also assume that by me running at 1080i, I'm using a LOT of memory for the video buffer and upsampling probably hurts a lot. I suppose I could turn all this down and see if it helps, but it is intermittant and hard to reproduce consistantly (watch for 1 hour and it normally will lock up).

One other thing I may try, is to actually REDUCE the cache settings for all the media playback...I've seen that posted several times. And the last thing, is I wonder if having an LCD enabled is causing it to crash or use more memory? I suppose I could try to disable that. All of this is just to find the root problem. If I KNEW that going to 128MB would fix it, I would do it tomorrow...have the memory, just need to pull the board...

Update: 128MB didn't seem to fix problem. One other update, is that 1080i causes lockup (with upsampling enabled). I've read other places that dropping this to 720p helps fix the lockups, but even a friends box with only standard def output (480i) begins to lag/stutter/drop frames about 1.5hrs into the movie (both before and after 128MB RAM upgrade). Both Xbox units are v1.0 with Thompson DVD's and 12-18-05 XBMC build.

Going to try to put a Phillips or Samsung drive in and see if that helps, and also may try to put an ATA-66/100 80-pin IDE cable on and see if that helps anything. Finally, going to see if playback of vob files from HDD fixes the problem (so far, wmv/xvid/qt/divx playback from HDD or even network stream all seems fine). Anyone know if you can network share a PC DVD drive and playback stream from that? Maybe that is my solution...grin.

Update: Thompson DVD also doesn't seem to be full source of problem, as a Phillips DVD player also having stuttering problems (I'll have to double check if that one has the 80-pin ATA cable or not). HDD playback seems fine.
