I converted the Dave Chappelle Season 1 episodes from like .mpg or .avi to DVD format. Took about 4hrs so I just let it go while I wuz sleeping. I use WinAVI Video Converter.

WinAVI is great, it even allows you to convert to wmv which you can use with the newly released "experience xbox 360 kiosk dvd" just replace the wmv in the videos folder.
Also you can use "DVDSanta v4.1"
Both of these programs allow a free trial, I've purchased WinAVI because it can do so much for me, i think if you just use the trial it watermarks the videos. _________________

It depends on the speed of your PC etc etc.
My pc can encode a dvd in about 2hrs.. But thats my new pc..
Personally for easy encoding, I use Nero 6.6 or 7. Nero Vision and Nero eXpress are insanely easy to use, and you can do all the menus and background music/vids that you want. Really a very versatile program. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
Well, I've had no problem converting avi to dvd or vice verse and my success has been behind VSO's DivX to DvD, it's a simple program and good quality. As for the speed it takes you to burn...Your computer's ability is of course the obvious factor but make sure you don't make it harder for your system. Don't use other programs during the burn unless your system can handle it. Not doing so may caid in creating errors in your final copy.
The do while you're asleep theory seems to work everytime.

Yeah, I don't run anything while I'm burning.
Nero is the best to use for burning the DVD. Use Nero Vision and it has a step by step wizard so u can't go wrong.

if you really want some in depth guides, check out videohelp.com they have a ton of information there, but some of the suggestions people already gave would work great too. vso's divx to dvd is actually pretty easy if you don't mind not having a dvd menu on the finished product.
