Just because it opens only means its getting power.

Did you have any drivers to install? Did you run a Install Wizard to see if it will recognize new hardware?

later man

If you have an install disk I would just rerun it.

Or, you can go to your Control Panel/Install New Hardware/ Run Wizard and if it doesn't detect it, click install manually, then choose have disk and throw in the disk that has the driver on it.

Windows XP is usually pretty smart at picking up new hardware.

If all else fails, you can disconnect the CD drive just leave it inside, you dont have to take out. Just disco cables and then fire up your PC with it not in there.

Then turn off, put it back in and when you turn on your machine again it should recognize the hardware. You can then follow the wizard and install your driver/software.

Okay, I was doing it all from my head and not too mention I am running Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition 2004 which differs from XP Home or XP Pro.

Glad to have helped though.

You can't purchase it as of yet. It is only available already loaded on select Media Center PC's.

It's a nice OS as it gives me all the benefits of XP Pro, but has DVR (Digital Video Recording) software and other Media types of software for pictures, radio, other audio.

It connects to a MS affiliate company and downloads my local (Comcast) digital cable guide and I can use my PC just like a TiVO or Replay TV unit. Then, once I have my shows digitally recorded I can burn them to DVD so I don't have to worry about buying complete seasons for Sopranos and other shows that I enjoy. There are so many different aspects of the Media Center OS, it would take forever for me to explain. I hope someday they offer the OS for retail purchase as I would like to convert my other PC's over to it and install DVR cards in them. I like being able to work on the PC and still be able to watch my TV shows from a second Monitor/TV source. My video card that came with my HP Media Center PC has S-Video input/output, RCA Video and Audio outputs, and regular coaxial inputs/outputs.

SONY uses GigaPocket on their Vaio Media Center PC's, but I didn't like the setup. The HP setup also has a remote control that I can use which really helps out for tv viewing, recording and channel surfing.

The only bad thing about it is that the OS features and menus differ slightly than my other XP Pro and Home OS's. I have two other PC's in my house, one running XP Pro and one running XP Home and everytime I go back and forth everything is slightly different.
