Posted: Sat Jul 17, 2004 4:12 pm Post subject: Downloaded Games - please help :(
Hey guys, this is my first post, and as such I'm not entirely sure if this is a legal topic? I have read through about a million posts trying to find help but found none.
Anyway, here's my problem. I have chipped my box (v1.0) with the xecuter 2.3b Lite, updated the bios, installed EvolutionX on the HD, all pretty much the latest versions, and now I want to play a game!
I have downloaded a game off the internet. (Is this where I get shouted at?) The game was in a Win Rar archive, so I un-zipped it and got a 2.295 Gig .ISO file. I used xISO on this ISO to make it an XBOX file. Then I burned the file to dvd using nero 6. It would not let me burn an ISO only a UDF, so I did it as that. I checked the box that says 'Forced DVD-video compatability mode (required for XBOX TM).
Then I popped the disc in the drive. Evox dashboard loads and claims the disc is 'Unknown.'
Where am I going wrong?! My dvd burner is brand new, I've tried hp dvd+rw and TDK dvd-r's. Should I be using a different XISO maker? Or perhaps patching the ISO or something? I have read through so many tutorials but am ultimately overloaded with info and totally confused.
Please help! And I'm really sorry if I shouldn't have mentioned this topic - feel free to delete my post if so.
Thanks!!

Being that you have a 1.0v xbox, you have the dreaded thompson dvd drive. No biggie, I have it was well. The thompson drive is the pickiest of all the drives ms used and it verys from media to media.
Because of the version you have I would say check the media, most sites say that it will read most dvd's, but I've had problems with +r's and +rw's. I only buy -r/-rw's now. The second thing, past brand of dvd is the type of dvd, is it a 1x general dvd or a 1-4x or 1-8x dvd.
Give me a little more info and we'll see if you can get you on your way.
Also, since you have a comp, you could attempt to ftp it to your xbox instead of buring it. I havent transfered games this way, as I havent downloaded any, but I have transfered apps using this method and heard of people transfering games that way. _________________ XBOX v1.0:

The way I transfer games and apps is by FTP. Just connect you xbox up to your router by a standard ethernet cable or pc by a cross-over ethernet cable. Download Flash FXP and transfer your files into E:\games evox will auto detect this and add it to your dashboard. If you need any help specificaly with FTP just ask. _________________ V1.4 Xbox

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
I probably could ftp it all but I was hoping to burn games instead as I don't have a spare hard drive to put into my xbox, and the internal hd isn't big enuff.
The dvd's I used were first of all TDK DVD-R's that were 1-4x.
Secondly I used HP DVD+RWs which only seemed to burn at 2.4x
I'll try some new formats and get back to you.
Just a thought, on the info skin of EvolutionX it says my Bios is unknown. Could this be an issue? I used the bios mentioned in one of the main tutorials, so it's a common one and up to date as far as I know. When I boot on bank 2, it says it's in bios flashing mode every time. Is this normal?
Also, does is make a difference which switches are flipped? At the moment, I have Enabled/Un-protected/Bank 1. What is the protected/unprotected switch for?
And one last thing. I keep seeing mention of .xbe files. The only file I am currently burning to the disc is an .iso. There is nothing else in the download. Is this missing or is it included in the .iso file?
Thanks guys! Sorry for the long messages _________________ XBox version 1.0

That just meanst the your evox.ini is getting a bit old.. It wont cause your xbox to have any problems though so dont worry about that..
Just to test.. I would do this:
1.Unzip the rarred game into a directory on your pc.
2.Download A XISO creator/EXTRACTOR like XISO from here:
http://xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=15
3.Open the XISO extractor and choose 'EXTRACT'
4. Once all the files are extracted you can ftp the files directly to your xbox via FTP from you pc.
Learn how to ftp into your xbox here in the tutorials section.
Im sure you will get the iso burnt onto dvd and working soon. Its just a media problem.. If you are booting other backups and have a evox dashboard or equivalent installend then your MODCHIP is FINE AND DANDY! (swweeeet).

btw. pm Connor2k for xecutor info mate. He is the XBox-Hq Xecutor GURU.
I've realised (with your help!) what I was doing wrong all along! I was burning the iso file as an iso, I think therefore re-iso-ing an already iso-ed iso, if you know what I mean.
So, I extracted the iso, like you suggested, and then burned a UDF file (with forced compatability for XBOX checked) with all of the individual extracted files, rather than just one big iso.
I think nero then created the xbox compatible iso/udf file for me. When I put it in the box, shock horror, it worked!!!
Such a simple mistake, but it's had me going crazy for 2 days!! The forums here are awesome, you guys were so quick to reply. Thanks loads.
Btw, if anyone's interested, I was using HP dvd+rw at 2.4x. So far, it's worked with The Sims and Theif 3. Oh and I used ADR to patch the files before burning them.
Thanks so much guys! Don't worry, I'll buy all the games once I've played them

Hey Smikey, welcome to the site.
Here is how I deal with all .ISO's that I download from the net.
All I do is open my program called CloneDVD2. You can find a free trial download at shareit.com or element.com to see if you like before you buy.
There are ways around buying, but that's for a different forum...
Anyway, once CloneDVD is opened there are only three buttons to choose from. This program is very simple. You just select "Write Existing File" and check the .ISO/UDF radio button when the next window appears.
Then just click burn. Viola...you have a burnt xbox game from a downloaded .ISO file.
I got this CloneDVD2 to backup my movies but was pleasantly pleased to find out I could use it to burn xbox .ISO files. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
