Why is it that i can only play some roms on surreal, and others wont load up, and i end up restarting my xbox. I have noticed that the bigger games that are 32mb+ wont run. Do i need to specify some settings in the emulator settings option. Please help, N64 is my fav system. Oh, and one more thing, why cant i transfer some roms over to my xbox via FlashFXP, they sometimes go staight to quarente list and says failed, can someone help. Sad

Hello ,

I am a new user and I have a question about N64 emulators . I know where to get them but my friend told me not to get one because it could mess up your eeprom . Is there a N64 emu that won't do that and works with a decent amount of n64 roms ?

Thank you ,

Mike .

Hi.

I think your friend has rocks in there head.. You only need a modded xbox to play emulators like the PS1 Emulators, N64, SNES etc etc. The emulators dont hurt your eeprom at all..

Look into the Auto INstaller Deluxe v2.11 Final.. It has 60+ Dashboards, Emulators and other xbox apps all on the one dvd-r.. You can download too. Find mor einfo here:
http://www.aid.xbox-hq.com or http://www.aideluxe.com

You can also download the AID from our VIP SERVERS too.

hope that answers your questions

bye

I have been messing around with Surreal64 and to be honest, I love it. I love being able to play MarioKart64 again! Absolutly love that game. But the one thing I'm having problems with is trying to find my UTMOST FAVORITE GAME from the 64 series......GOLDENEYE! I've looked and looked and looked. Just wondering if anyone has it and would be willing to send it my way. Also, if you do have it, does it actually run good? Cause MarioKart runs awesome, just hoping GoldenEye does the same. Thanks!

Folks,

Emulation is inherantly MUCH less optimized than playing the original game on the customized hardware. It is very hard to make an emulated ROM play on non-native hardware correctly, let alone fast. Right now, the "1964" emulator seems the best, followed by the "PJ64", in terms of most ROMs that it will work with without locking up or having artifacts.

I know I saw a current list of ROMs and which emulator works and which locks up for Surreal 64 somewhere (put it this way NONE of them currently runs more than about half the N64 ROMs out there). So, you'll have to pick and choose and just try it. The more memory the cartridge is, the slower the emulation is, typically. The XBox only has 64MB of memory, and some is shadowed to HDD.

Regards,

-Jhondra

Emulation is a tricky buisiness. In order to properly emulate, you need at the very least 3 times the hardware power of the original system. So, if you have the good ol' N64 (which is a 64 bit system ((theoretically))) then the xbox will only be able to play certain Roms. A majority of your N64 games rarely use the full 64 (or the expanded 128 provided by the expansion pack) bits that the system provides.

So, you have a 128 (or was it 256) bit system (the xbox) trying to emulate at the min, 32 bit (Mario64, MarioKart, etc...). No problem. But when you get into higher games like GOldenEye, the GPU gets crushed trying to emulate the hardware of the 64bit system. Because it needs at the very least 192bits. Now, if you try to run PerfectDark (Which in my opinion crushes GoldenEye, but would be nothing without it) you're better off modding a controller port of an xbox into your PC and playing it on a high-end custom built PC.

Hopefully, that will explain a little bit about emulation, and why most games won't work.
