Hey there fellow hq'ers!! As all can see our site is growing leaps and bounds and I just want to personally thank everyone for contributing. Please keep the files, tutorials, and anything else xbox/modding related coming.
With all the added members that we are getting I have begun to see a trend that I hope I can help curb. I have seen a lot of modders self installing chips without a clue as to what to do next.
Don't get me wrong, we are here to help and thoroughly enjoy the task, it's just a doctor wouldn't perform surgery without knowing what to do once the patient was opened up...ya know.
I think it's just a matter of organization, or the lack of. What I did prior to my first mod was create a check list of everything that is needed from point A to Z. First, you need to assess what it is exactly you want from your mod. Then, ask all the questions you need in order to gather the required information to successfully complete your mod. So many times I have seen posts where says, Okay installed HD now what? Prior to installing HD, you should already know whether or not you are going to format with an autoinstaller, or connect new HD to old HD and use your chips OS to swap info. You should also have a basic understanding of Evolution X and how your chips bios loads the dash, and what the dash is capable of. I have even seen people actually thinking the games are stored on their modchip. That thinking is fine prior to installing your chip, but to be totally honest if you are installing a chip without knowing what it is capable of, you are in for a bumpy ride.
Also, update your signature and let everyone know exactly what version machine you have, what chip and bios you are using, and what software you are installing.
This way, you won't already get somewhere and find out that you either selected the wrong equipment or software for your preferences. Not too mention for us other members and mods, it is sometimes difficult to step in and troubleshoot when you yourself don't even know where to go next as we do not know exactly what you have already done or what your capabilities are.
I also think that sometimes people don't ask right away because they're afraid of sounding dumb. Don't be. We have all started out asking basic questions. There are no stupid modding questions. Just think of them as basic modding questions. To this day I still lean on my fellow mates here to answer questions when I am befuddled.
In addition to all that I have mentioned, plan on spending time trolling through the previous posts and replys. Check out the other stickys and even the tutorials and glossaries dedicated to first timers.
So, with all of this said feel free to add any suggestions for our new modders to follow. Then, hopefully this topic will create a great guideline for first timers to follow prior to actually chipping their machine.

Just remember, it is illegal to make a copy of a game you do not legally own. Also, if you make a copy of a game or piece of software that you legally own, if the original is ever damaged, destroyed, or sold you must also destroy your backup. Thanks to everyone for their cooperation.
EDIT: 05-05-2005:
When submitting attacments and/or putting images in a post please limit the width of the image to 450pixels at the MOST!!
I have been going in and changing peoples larger photos to smaller sized photos but I am getting tired of having to do this.
The forum does not function well when you have to scroll left and right and makes it difficult for others to read the threads..
I will soon start just deleting images that are too large.

Hi, I'm new and I might be getting a xbox360 elite. I want to hardmod/softmod. But I really don't know how, or if I should. My friends say not too because you get banned from live...

This site is for the xbox 1 so if you want to talk about your 360 you need to follow the 360-hq link at the top of the page.
