I'm kinda stumped. I'm using SID3 to softmod a friend's xbox. Here's the tut for it:
1. Copy the contents of SID3.Splinter.Cell.Part1.Xbox-Hq to your memory device. Also copy SID3.Splinter.Cell.Part2.NTSC.Xbox-Hq or SID3.Splinter.Cell.Part2.PAL.Xbox-Hq as it's needed too. The best ways are to use a modded Xbox to do it (by unzipping the file and copying the contents to E:\) and then transfering to your memory card, or use a Mega X-Key or Action Replay to dump the ZIP files on to.
2. Make sure the gamesave is on your unmodded Xbox, then turn it off.
3. Insert Splinter Cell and turn your Xbox on. When you're at the main menu of the game, select "Load Game" and then highlight "Linux". Tress A to boot the Installer.
4. Install the Softmod. Please note this deletes the MS Dash from C Drive, hence why you have been told to use the backup feature.
5. Turn off your Xbox and insert the Auto-Installer Deluxe v2.0 Disc.
6. Go to "Install Softmod + MS Dash". This will automatically set up your drive with the Softmod and MS Dash. Please note you will still have to install a hacked dashboard.
So I'm following that exactly and I get to step 5. Only one problem.... the disc won't boot. I don't know why it won't. It works fine on my modded xbox. Any help is appreciated.

i bet u ten to one the disk ur using is not the right type of diskfor the disk drive u have in ur xbox samsung ' phillips ' and thompsun check the forums for the correct disk

It's a samsung drive, and a Memorex CD-R. I thought installing the softmod allowed burned discs of all kinds to be played? It plays burned games right now, but not this disc for some reason.

It should work on a cd-rw as well as long as you haven't added to much stuff to it that it won't fit. Thats how I use it, that way if I add something, I don't have to burn another disk, just erase the one I have and reburn. Yeah, I know. I am tight.

The PC that currently has AID2 on it does not have a dvd burner. That, and I don't have any DVD-R's.
I've tried burning it to a CD-RW as well. Again, it launches in my modded xbox, but not my friend's.
I don't understand why his newly softmodded xbox will not read a CD-R(W).

if you xbox reads it ,
then put the dvd drive from your xbox to your friends xbox and run it ,
should work just fine ,

I'm not too experienced with technical stuff like that, so I don't trust myself to switch drives.
Mine is chipped, his is softmodded using SID3.

if you can open a can of coke
you should be able to manage it.
just when u lift your drive out
don't touch the chip below it
and everything should be ok.

I could, but:
1. He doesn't want to void his warranty, which is why he opted for a softmod instead of a chip.
2. I like my drive.
3. If his drive can't read certain media, I wouldn't want it in my xbox.
If I somehow burned AID 2 to a DVD-R, would it most likely boot on his?

Hi ive got a Thomson DvD drive on my xbox. I can burn DVDs containing the AID program but when i try to load them up i keep getting an error message. so im guessin that its something to do with the disks .could any1 tell me which type of DVD RW/DVD R would be the best to use

who said anything about letting your mate keep your
drive???!
Your mate`s warranty will be void with a softmod on it anyway.
