I installed the SID3 using Splinter Cell. Then through him poking around at things, he got an ERROR13 when he turned it on, and could only play original games.

Now for some reason even they fail to boot, and he gets an ERROR16.

I don't have a chipped XBOX, only my own softmodded one with a replaced HD. I've looked around and found some hotswapping methods, but wanted to know whether anyone could tell me the best solution to this problem.

I'd rather not have to buy a chip, and some descriptions of ERROR 16 suggest just using AID to reinstall, but neither originals nor backups will work.

Any help? Please? Confused

Yeah, that's one of the ones I came across. Just wanted to check whether it was most applicable to this situation.

To avoid this, can I simply back up the eeprom in future and burn an xboxhdm disc?

Could I back up my working softmodded Xbox's C drive and use that in the xboxhdm iso? Or will I need to acquire latest version of MSDash from somewhere else if I haven't backed up the broken box's C?
