Is there any way to get this content, short of signing up for XBL and downloading it? I assume it must be stored on the HDD when downloaded, but does anyone know where?

Good question! I have been researching that myself and have only found out that a lot of live downloads are stored on C drive, but nobody knows what the filenames are. You can rule out X, Y, and Z because those are primarily used for temp files like maps and stuff. Hey you can get some of the down loads from XBOX mags disc.
and if you try to find the files on your xbox they are in the save games file for that game that would be the E folder check you ms dash look at the memory section and llok for the game you have downlodable content and there it should be hope that helps you all out

Yeah asmunch, there are a ton of downloads on the demo disks that come with the magazine. I have about forty of them right now. They actually had a couple XBOX live demo games that allowed you to connect to the xbox live service. I have had XBOX Live for over a year now. I got a free year when I purchased the startup kit, and in January I paid my yearly subscription fee. When I first got it I was doing some serious online play, now I only connect once in a great while to game with people I know. I have downloaded XBOX Connect, but haven't gave it a whack yet. Is there any lag or other issues that anyone has experienced with XBOX Connect? Also, I have heard that XBOX Connect doesn't work for everyone. Boot Slayers Auto Installer or The XBOX-HQ EVOX INSTALLER and choose to load 'Config Magic' from the menu..
Once loaded it will give you the option to lock/unlock your newly installed hard drive... Thats it.. Reboot your xbox and turn off your modchip..
Your xbox should now boot to the M$ Dashboard (Retail) ready to play xbox live..
There were rumours about XBOX LIVE scanning your hard drive but im not sure if they are true..

My biggest complaint about XBConnect... I got my tail kicked ROYALLY on Halo... my son & I resorted to standing... nay! cowering back-to-back to guard against the other team AND WE STILL DIDN'T SEE WHAT HIT US!!!! Reminds me of that online game commercial where the special ops guys were playing against regular joes and at the end they said "It's like shootin' fish in a barrel!"
Bill Gates is probably a VIP member of xbox-hq. Here's how we smoke him out.... raise the VIP membership fee from $10 to $10,000,000.... the only member left is Bill Gates!
