I've spent a long time reading through forums and the outdated tutorial to find help installing my new hard drive. This is what happens.
I bought a Seagate 200 GB. Right now I have a Xenium Ice, with an evox M7 bios. I put the HDD in and when I launch EVOX M7 bios it gives me the service required msg. I have AID but I can't get the disk to boot with the new HDD in. Also my chip has a lil OS where has a HDD wizard but its telling me to hook up the new HDD as a slave to my old HDD in place of my DVD ROM but I'm assuming I need to get a splitter for the power supply since its a different connector for the ROM. BTW Right now I have a tHc dash installed but I don't know how to get rid of it. Any help would be great. I'd rather not have to install the HDD into my PC to format it.
Thanks
One more thing since I posted I FTP evox M8+ just to make sure I have an updated bios but still get the same result. Also theres a big 21 in the left hand corner when I get the service msg. _________________ xbox v1.4

the HDD wiz is for transfering data from one drive to another
you dont need to use that for what you are trying to do _________________ XBOX ver.1

Updating the HD is very easy if you have the right tool. And that is, AID 1.01 burned to a DVD-R..
DVD-R is your best choice because it is read my all Xbox DVD Drives. I havent had one choke yet that I can remember, and if I did it was a rare occurance.
Like previously mentioned, you do not use the HD wizard unless you are sucking the info out of the old HD to the new HD. I dont recommend doing that at all. That's what installers are designed for.
Once you are certain you have AID 1.0.1 ISO downloaded, bur the ISO to a DVD-R, you can use Nero, DVD Decrypter, or your favorite dvd burning program. I personally use CloneDVD2.
Once you have your disk made, just take a chill pill and make sure you have your mod chip flashed with the correct hacked bios.
I would use M8_16 bios with a 1.6 machine only. With a 1.6b I woudl use M8 plus. With any other version I would use X2 4983 bios.
If your chip if flashed, and you put the disk in and boot the hacked bios you should see the evox logo in the upper left corner (using M8 bios). If it goes straight to error 21 that means it did not read your disk.
What your Xbox does is boots to the disk drive first, if it cannot find anything to boot there, it boots to the HD... sorta like your PC does except a lot of pc's look to the floopy drive first...
If you do not have a dashboard on your HD you are going to get error 21, so that is normal. Your problem is in your installer disk. Something isn't right. EIther it was burned incorrectly or your DVD drive is not reading your media that you used.

All that makes since thats why I don't understand what's happening. Original HDD: turn on Xbox Xenium menu comes up I select my hacked bios and with my AID disc in it starts the flubber with the EVOX sign in the corner then goes right to the auto installer. If i have the new HDD in every thing is the same but after the flubber w/ evox sign comes up... instead of booting AID I get service message. double checked connections and even made new copy of AID. Burned with DVD+R ESA Brand, and DVD+R Imatation Brand. Both will boot with old HDD. Any help is great. Thanks for the quick replies guys. _________________ xbox v1.4

Death@hand, thanx bro you were right I was able to format my HDD from Xenium Ice OS. You Rock dude. Also Modgod thanks for all your input. After I read one of your replies in another forum I found out that the reason my HDD only read 130 GIG instead of 200 was because I needed a different Bios I went with your recommended X2 4983.67. Thanks again this website rocks! _________________ xbox v1.4

i'm having the same problem installing my hard drive i have the same 200 g seagate. when i put the dvd in it won't boot from the dvd drive first, but when i put the hard drive back in that came with the xbox it will boot from the dvd drive. i tried to boot with a game just to see if i made a bad copy of aid and the game won't even boot first unless i have the orignal harddrive installed.. is there any other way i can install this harddrive or am i doin something wrong. my mod chip is installed properly. i'm using an aladdin with x2 latest bios. i've read something bout ftping my xbox to my pc, but that sounds like too much work. help is appreciated.

Yea, ironically Im haveing the same problem with my 200GB Maxtor HDD.
With the original HDD installed I press the top button to open the CD tray(I get the flubber), put the AID v1.01 disk that I burned onto a DVD-R, and my bios screen comes up. NO AID screen.
But when I turn it off and on again I get the flubber then it goes striaght to the AID screen with the funky music.
I then turned my box off (leaving the AID disk in) hooked up my new HDD (pretty sure the jumper setting is on CS enabled) turned my xbox back on and I got the error sreen; error 09
Any suggestions?
Wonder if its not a bug in the .rar file we got?????
Special Thanx to forahobby, shortacid and XboxXXX for problem solveing this with me so far.

That is odd...
I know that the older version of AID had a glitch when people tried to use it on a blank HD. But that was caused by an intro video... once the intro was removed no other problems cropped up.
Strange that all of a sudden a trio of issues popped up like that. It sounds like you guys are doing everythig correctly.

Well if you had a friend with a chipped xbox you could see if theyd be willing to format it in their box then just move it over to your box ready-formatted and set it up _________________ Xbox Version 1.3:
