Help.. I can not get the Skins to work, I downloaded the latest version which has the matrix skin, I follow the instructions and nothing.
I created a MxmSkins folder, placed the folder "It's about choices"
Do you launch the matrix skin from the title menu?
I am running Media X as an App, not as my main dash, it is located in the F drive so I changed the MXM.xml, I ran the MXM_patcher, which created a default.xbe, I have the evoxdash.xbe, which I think could be deleted, being I'm running this as an App.
<Config>
<Main>
<DiscTitle>Media X Menu</DiscTitle>
<DiscSubtitle> </DiscSubtitle>
<SkinsPath>F:\MXMSkins</SkinsPath>
</Main>
</Config>
I also have no clue on viewing the mpegs from games? Or what the xbox file extension is.
From what I've read, you have to create a file MXM_Entry.xml, and MXM_SS.mpeg, does the MXM_Entry go in the location of the game, and does the MXM_SS go in the MXM_entry folder?
It is obvious that you are dealing with a third grader here, sorry for the lack of knowledge
I'm stuck and would appreciate any help. _________________ XBOX Ver: 1.5

Ok..
open your MXM.ini which is in the root folder..
Make sure that it points to the correct path of your skins..
mine is c:/MXMSKINS/
Just copy the skins into the root of eg. c:/MXMSKINS/its all about choice/
Then you have to go into the menu option by pressing the (ORANGE - Y) controller button on the XBOX. It will bring up the MXM menu then choose 'Configuration'.
Then you can choose your skin and reboot..
hang in there with me mate as im at work trying to think of this of the top of my head..
These are the files you need.
default.xbe
evox.xbe (if running as a app you only need default.xbe)
mxm.ini (need to show where the skins directory is)
hope this helps mate..
ok.. To get movies shown in the screenshot sample when reviewing your games in the MXMmenu just copy MXM_SS.wmv (WMV8) into the root of each game you want to have the movie shown for.
Then just go here to my other topic and copy and paste the info so it does a full hard drive search for all apps and games..

No good, do you have to change the settings in the skin, does it need a xbe?
Here is my mxm.xml
<Config>
<Main>
<SkinsPath>F:\MXMSkins\its about choices</SkinsPath>
</Main>
</Config>
The only other files I have in the MXM root is the default.xbe, and the cache_menu.
There are a tone of files in the "its all about choices" file
Music folder
8PinMatrix.xpr
Blank.xpr
fontb.xpr
Intro.wma
Loading.wma
Loading.wma.sfk
Matrix.png
Menu.wma
menuback.wma
MXM_Skin.xml
MXM_Skin.xml.bak
Read Me
TVborder.png
TVborder2.png
Do I need to change any of those? When I go into the MediaX then the config then skins I only have the basic skins?
Lost
Any help?

you should just have your MXM pointing to the c:\MXMSKINS directory (example)..
Then you would just copy all the seperate skins in their folders into that directory..
example:
c:\MXMSKINS\ (root)
c:\MXMSKINS\its all about choice\ (skin)
c:\MXMSKINS\xboxhq skin\ (skin
then turn off menu caching..
reboot your xbox and go into the skin settings under the 'configuration' menu..

Thanks Forahobby, I got Matrix skin working, and it is great, however getting the videos to work is another issue. How do you convert the bik or the xmv to wmv? Is there software that converts, or do you copy one of the .xmv, .bik files and changed the file extension to .wmv?
Also, once you have the wmv file, do you change it to MXM_SS.WMV, and place it in the root of the game, with the MXM_Entry.xml?
Then do you reset the cache file, and restart MXM?
I have a Bink tool that allows you to view .bik on my pc, very cool, and convert them to avi, jpeg, etc but not .wmv
I read that the MXM only reads .wmv is that correct?
Thanks for all your help _________________ XBOX Ver: 1.5

Windows Movie Maker dude..
If you have windows xp its standard..! I think its in winme too
1. get a .bik movie file from the game if it has it
2. Open .Bik encoder (radgametools)
3. Convert to avi (no compression)
4. Open Windows Movie Maker
5. Select 'New' then 'New Project'
6. Drag and drop the .avi you converted into it or choose 'File' Then 'Import'
7. It will splt the video up.
8. drag it down the bottom
9. Click Save Movie and choose 'High Quality' - Video for broadband (256kbps)
10. name the movie MXM_SS.wmv
11. Then copy it into the game folder.
e.g. If it was HALO you did put the MXM_SS.wmv into the folder (my xbox)
f:\games\halo\MXM_SS.wmv
12.Now just turn off your cache and reboot. Then turn on your cache again..
13. It will find every video clip you have in each game directly on the scan.

you can convert a .bik to a .avi and then encode it to .wmv (which is needed for the dashboard movies). *my movies are 1.01mb with over 2 minutes of demo.
Once you convert the .bik file to .avi using the RAD GAME TOOLS you can then use WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER (standard in windows xp) to encode the wmv you need..
The instructions above are the best i can explain it sorry..

Thank, I got it.. Now I'm obsessed with converting game trailers, I have tons of them. We need a place to upload these so everyone can enjoy MXM..
Quick note, that if you run the update to windows movie maker, it will cause a problem when you convert try to conver the avi to wmv, I think is will end up generating wmv 9 which are not supported by mxm.. _________________ XBOX Ver: 1.5

Someone must be tired of playing with themselves. Post if you're gonna post man!
Now, in regard to the MXM I am so highly interested in getting this on my machine. I downloaded it eon's ago and I just have been a little too busy to battle the install. I like the idea of installing it as an app. Since you have already been through hell with this puppy War1, I am probably gonna be leaning on you to help me through this!
While it's still fresh in your mind this would make an awesome tutorial! I'll make you a deal. If you write the tutorial, I'll start converting and uploading movies for our VIP's. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
