I, just like most othe ppl have a problem, i have just got an xbox from a friend Version 1.3 and its hdd is screwed , due to the fact that he kicked the xbox across the room. It was junmping and freezing on a rental dvd and he got pissed at his box. After this i pointed out that the dvd was scratched. Anyway i want to mod it to run linux as a dedicated server for Counterstrike,
I myself have an xbox aswell,
so what can i do to get the bust xbox running , any help would me much appreciated.
I probably will get sent to loads of links that can help, I am so busy with other projects i just dont have time to surf this great ,verry good, big site.

Here is what I would do.
I would install a mod chip (SmartXX as it comes with Linux CD) and find an unlocked stock HD (I have about 20 if you need). Or, if you are installing a larger HD then just get that.
Once you have the machine chipped, you will be able to marry an unlocked HD to that motherboard and have yourself a modded xbox. Or, remove the chip and have a regular Xbox whatever it is you want to do.

Personally I would go for gentoox, I rather it to the xebian you get with the smartxx, and that way you could get a cheaper chip like the aladdin or duox2, if your just running a linux server you won't need a chip with an OS etc.
Are you going to be running linux as native? or as an app? (still has all the memory to itself as it unloads evox)

I havent decided on a mod chip yet but , Im going in the right direction on the fix now so thanks for all your help guys
