Hi guys,

Just adding this section to the forums for all those newbies getting error codes all the time.. Its also good for me too.. Im getting forgetful in my old age.. hehhe lol.. Click on your error in the links below and it will take you to your information.

IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION TO ADD PLEASE CONTACT ME DIRECTLY SO I CAN UPDATE THIS PAGE AND THE XBOX TUTORIALS PAGE AS WELL

Important
To use the XBOXHQ Auto Installer or any Auto Installer your xbox must have a modchip fitted.. If your xbox is softmodded and you cannot get rid of most errors you could modchip your machine and use the HQ Auto Installer Deluxe to fix..

If your xbox is softmodded and you are getting these errors you will NOT be able to boot the XBOX HQ Auto Installer Deluxe. Only a modchip will fix this.

Instructions
If you have encountered one of these service errors:
- look up the code in the list below
- read the info
- read the solution (very important )
- if possible, read any related topics

Service Error 05
Info: Your Xbox Harddrive is not locked. A retail BIOS needs a locked Harddrive. You will receive this error only when turning off your modchip and booting to the retail M$ Dashboard.
Solution: Use "ConfigMagic" to lock/unlock the Harddisk ("ConfigMagic" can be found on the "HQ Auto Installer Deluxe Installer v1.01" ISO).

Service Error 08
Info: No Harddisk found.
Solution: Check the IDE Connection/Cable and check the Power Supply.

Service Error 09
Info: Harddisk parameters (PIO/DMA/or size). Certain minimum size is required for a debug BIOS. According to llamma.com, error code 09 means "Xbox motherboard is having trouble communicating with the Hard Drive...this is probably due to an ATA controller on the motherboard and not due to the hard drive itself." When the error screen appears, the light around the eject button flashes red instead of green. The disc tray will not open and the system will not boot up at all. You could also have corrupt EEPROM settings.
Solution(s): Make sure the jumper is on cable select (the new harddrives have many different options that you can choose depending on the way you set the jumper ..so just check it ,make sure someone didnt get confused. Try replacing the IDE cable. Get EEPROM backup

Service Error 13
Info: Dashboard launch failed (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.
Solution: Lock the Harddisk if not done so. Try updating your M$ Retail Dashboard using the 'HQ Auto Installer v1.01'. or manually download and install one of the 4 different Microsoft Dashboard versions.

Solution 2:
1: Unplug ethernet cable from xbox
2: Insert Xbox Live compatible game
3: Try to use the games xbox live feature, this should bring up a screen that says something along the lines of updating your console for xbox live.
It worked for my xbox, I was unable to do anything on my xbox, but after I did that... it works good now, Live is also working good.

Service Error 21
Info: This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag. This error seems to show up more often when hacking/patching/customizing the original dashboard. E21 (Error 21) is a dashboard related error.
Normally it means you are missing vital files from your xbox c:\ parition or you are running the wrong M$ Dashboard for your xbox version.
E20 is directly related to the Dashboard files but i have found from previous experience E21 is very simlar. Even though you get E21 you should still be able to BOOT GAMES from the DVDROM drive.. The bios boots the DVDROM first and if no dvd found in the drive it will boot the xbox c:\ parition next.
Solution: You probably are running the wrong dashboard for your xbox version. Use the 'HQ Auto Installer Deluxe' to reinstall your Retail M$ Dashboard.. It should fix this error no matter which xbox version you have.. If not try downloading another Retail M$ Dashboard.
