I was wondering...
I’ve got an Xtender, so I of course have the Stock Xbox HDD installed in the total configuration. I was wondering if locking is only for using the MS dash. If I need the MS dash I have the stock drive ready to fly.
If locking isn’t necessary for anything other than the MS dash then that means I can buy any just about and 300GB HDD regardless of whether or not it locks.
What do you think?

yes, you are 100% correct, and i have seen it mentioned you "shouldn't" lock your hdd unless you are going on Live cuz if anything goes wrong with the Xbox while the hdd is locked, it is now a paperweight.

Hi guys,

As long as you dont use XBOX LIVE or turn off your modchip you DO NOT HAVE TO LOCK YOUR DRIVE AT ALL! Smile

I always lock drives so the xbox is in as close to original condition in case any future apps look for the hdd locked feature.

anyway, l8r boys,

It is very difficult to unlock but can be done. I had to do that before when I had a corrupt EEprom which can be fixed too with the right ModChip.

It requires you to hook the hard-drive up to your computer and load a couple programs via DOS mode.
