Am a very newbie lol , I bought an original Xbox soft modded (0.38.0515A Build 565) two weeks ago .
Worked fine for few days, but now 95% of the time when i boot it up I can hear the click of death... CLICK CLIcK ... the Hard drive is dying and it stays in the boot screen.
Every-time i try to read/write from the hard drive (FTP) it starts clicking and a screen with error 09 appears.
I learned from searching on google ,that I need a HDD key to replace the hard drive before it dies completely , so I managed to copy it from the UnleachX info screen ( HDD key + Serial number ).
Is it possible to replace the hard drive ? Is there any hope ?
PS: I do not have any soldering tools/skills
sorry for my English.

i would buy a new hdd for it make sure its compatible first and then use something like chimp too copy the drive or get it sent too someone and they can put a cheap modchip inside of it and replace the drive. _________________ youtube.com/channel/UCPkPFFEMgoun_8mk_K0NNIA

Forget all that for the time being.
The important thing you should be doing first is make sure you have a backup of the Xbox's eeprom. Without that if your softmodded HDD dies you're into a lot hassle because any replacement HDD has to be locked with that (effectively a key) or it will not boot.
If the HDD is so dodgy that you can not install the Evox dash as an app, the tool you need to backup the eeprom, I'd suggest doing it using an installer disc like AID or HeXEn.
Find a download and burn the ISO to DVD-R with Imgburn and it should work on any Xbox disc drive.
Let's assume it is AID you have: wait for it to boot, which can take 45+ secs, and use its backup menu to get the eeprom. You'll still have to find a way of getting to your PC ie. FTP or memory card/USB.
With that as backup you can now try installing Chimp 261812 and doing a hard drive clone. Just keep your fingers crossed that its not too late for that.
