Hey,

okay I have three questions:

Question #1:
What is the quickest and easiest way to fix a line 16 error with a softmod?

Question #2:
Has anyone ever had any problems when removing a softmod from a v1.6 xbox using the SC hack? (Supposedly a friend of mine had problems)

Question #3?
Finally, what is the quickest and easiest way to put in a new HD (Obviously this new HD will be modded too)?

Thank you very much for your time and any help will be greatly appreciated.

#1: Error 16 is normally a problem with the dashboard, the easiest way for me to fix this error is to restore the backup that I made of the C drive. You can normally run any gamesave hack for any of the 3 games and have ftp access, then just copy everything in the backup over. Ltools also has an uninstall process that removes all the exploits, and also restores the c drive back to the condition that you had it in before you did the softmod. If you used ltools this is the quickest and easiest.

#2: There shouldn't be any problems removing a softmod, all you have to do is have ftp access to the machine. That is assuming you didn't use ltools that has an uninstaller provided for you. I assume it is somehow possible to lose ftp access somehow, but normally that is only if you delete the game saves from the hard drive, but I think SC can load saves from the mem card also. So barring your dvd drive going out, you should always be able to fix anything that goes wrong, or uninstall it as long as you have a backup.

#3: This is something I sadly have not had a chance to do yet, from what I can tell the easiest way is to get the program from our PC Utilities section, it is in the subdirectory HDD Tools or something similar. The program is called "xboxhdm" or Xbox Hard Drive Manager, I think that's the official name of the program. Anyways it has all the documentation for how to use it along with a softmod. From what I read, it seems that you just copy your c and e drive into the folders that is located in the zip file, then you run the "make an iso" batch file. This will then be burned to a cd, and you will need to boot your computer off of it. Sorry for the vague details, I haven't did this upgrade yet, and also I read the documentation about a week or so ago.

Hope this helped, if you need any more questions, don't hesitate to ask, I or another member will be more than happy to help you out.

ok thanks soo much for the help so far ! I'm just gonna try to clarify my situacion a little bit more.

Question 1:
I can't even run a game. I put SC in and it just pops up with 16, I've tried every way to get it to run but it wont. So I can't ftp into the box ...hmmm problem? So i was thinking that I;m just gonna take the hard drive out and hook it directly up to my comp and just copy the stuff over thru windows. Any problems with this possibility?

Question 2:
I just found out from my friend why his messes up. Don't know if you know about this, but if you install a larger hard drive (softmod of course) and then try to remove all the modded material so as to logon to LIVE or something, then the xbox won't recognize the hd and just not run (it loops). Still dont know if its only if the HD has to be over a certain amount for this to happen tho.

Question 3:

Sounds good to me. I'm gonng try it later today. Question tho: Do i have to have that HD as the backup or one very very similar ... same type ... within a month of manufacture .... any problems with this?

#1: If you can't run a game that is definitely a problem, did you by any chance get the hard drive key and eeprom from the box before it messed up? If you don't, you may need to actually install a mod chip to be able to boot the corrupted hard drive. I don't really know what happened unless the bios file is corrupted and not looking at the dvd drive to boot.

#2: A larger hard drive shouldn't make it so that you can't uninstall the mod, because as long as you install everything back like it should be, then you will be able to boot normally to the dashboard, that is as long as you have your hard drive locked and all, that could be the problem there.

#3: Buying me a 200gb hard drive today, should be in next week, newegg normally ships things very quickly. So I'll be able to report back, and possibly make a small tutorial on how to do the hard drive upgrade.

i have read the above thread and have the same problem (error 16). however i 'm not sure what a softmod is and i wanted to know if i can use "slayer's modification" to fix the problem. PLEASE READ:

i'm in a huge bind. I have an xbox and an error 16 (a dash problem pparently) The problem is it does not belong to me. a friend said i could use it while he's away. got it home hooked it up and hey presto i get stuck with the damn thing. last time i saw him use it it worked, but he may have used it inbetween for a day. the problem is i know very little bout it, im an occasional gamer. I know, however, that it is chipped (modded - to work with written, unoriginal, cds). i dont know what mod and it seems like there are a few. i have read that i can use the "slayer" thing which is d/l as we speak. but then what, i run the .exe - do i have to input any data?

description of what happens: when i power up the "x" sign comes on ect. makes the xbox sound and then the "service required error 16" appears.

The version is 1.6 (got this from a very detailed table that analyses the ser # thoughly). Know how to take it apart as well, a tut showed me (looks v similar to a pc) but would prefer to skip the option of opening it up.

can i try my luck with the "slayer"?

i know i sound like a complete idiot, but were it a pc i know my fare share, with the xbox i hate to say i'm a newbie.

please anyone - i'd appreciate some help.

thank you
