I have a softmodded 120 gig 1.6 xbox.I have used Complex Tools, Dvd2Xbox, and PxHDD Loader to copy Halo 2 and Gothum Racing 2 to my hd. The games (bumper) loads, but when you push Start, my xbox just freezes. The original Halo and Medal of Honor work fine though. It reminds me of backing up pc games that do a cd check. Could someone tell me how to fix this via an editor or crack??.............Does this only occur with softmodded xbox's? Thanks

You may have a 1.6b machine. If so, you need a specific bios to be using for the 1.6.
Two ways you can tell if you have a 1.6b.
First, but not the most accurate: Check the yellow wiring harness that comes from the Eject/Power button PCB and goes to the Mobo. If it has one brown wire, you have a 1.6b. However, some 1.6bs don't have this one brown wire.
Second, and the most effective way: Look at the Ram on your mobo. If it says Samsung, you have a 1.6 if it says Hymem you have a 1.6b. The 1.6b's have cheap RAM and it tends to cause games to freeze right after the loading screen or even before.
This may not be your specific problem, but until we rule it out we won't know.

Sorry that it took so long to respond, was at work. The wiring harnass contains all yellow wiring and the memory reads samsong 407. So I am pretty sure that it would be a 1.6. Is there any other reason why I can only play certain games, but not others? Thanks

Well, at least we got that idea out of the way
The only other thing that I could think of is the way your ripping/backup program is patching the game that it's ripping.
You can try updating to the newest version of DVD2Xbox if you don't currently have.
If you do currently have the most recent version, then you can always try a different M8 bios. Maybe the version you grabbed has some issues or it is corrupt.
The other thing to try is manually patching the games that aren't working. Hopefully somone else can give you some other ideas to go off of.

I download and ftp'd the newest version of dvd2xbox. I copied Halo 2 to hd and when I tried to play it locked up when instructed to press start. In my settings my bios version reads 256k Retail 5838.01. Could you tell me how to change my bios please. Thanks for all your help.

Since you are working with a softmod, you'll have to get some help from sjohn since he's our softmod guru.
I'll transfer this topic over there and bump it so hopefully he sees it.

First place I normally start with this problem now is looking on the E drive, for a cache folder. There will be some .bin files, access via ftp or BoXplorer or something similar. Delete the bin files in this folder, and hopefully it will start working without problems.
Anyone have a clue what this cache folder is? and why you have to clear it sometimes? _________________

Thank you so much. My xbox now does everything that I set out for it to do. Your site is awesome "A#1". For the price of dinner at McDonalds I got all the information and help via the forums, Vip Support (worth $10 alone), and all the files. Thanks for making my childrens Christmas.
