Hello,

I'm running a hardmodded original v1.1 Xbox with an Xecutor mod chip and the latest version of Evolution X as my main dashboard.

My current problem is that no matter what I do, Amped 2 will always completely freeze and stop loading (the machine itself even goes completely silent) whenever I launch into the game proper by choosing either the Career, Free Run or Tutorial options from the main menu.

This always happens no matter WHAT I do.

I've patched the game using all three available patches (including the default.xbe fix).

I've booted the game from both the hard disk and the DVD (burned copies of the cISO image and legitimate copies of the game), including both PAL and NTSC versions.

I've cleared out the contents of the X, Y and Z partitions as well as the CACHE folder in E drive.

I've ACL patched the game folder on the hard disk using DVD2XBOX.

AND SO FAR NOTHING FRIGGIN' WORKS! I'm just about at my wits end trying to figure out what's wrong! If anyone can help me out, I'll be immensely grateful!

FYI I'm also trying to run the game in 720p, so maybe that has something to do with it?

I'm sure SPPV will ask this if he finds this thread so I'll quicken then the process and ask what BIOS are you using?

Have you tried switching off the chip (if possible) and launching the original disc from the MS dash (NTSC). That would tell you if it was a chip BIOS issue.

You'd need to lock the HDD as it is likely unlocked on a chipped machine. You can unlock it later - ConfigMagic Final is the tool to use for this.

You've done everything that is normally recommended for such problems. Indeed a quick Google lead me to an old thread from another forum I knew well which always had good advice about such matters. Clearing the E:\CACHE and the content of the X, Y and Z drives is the primary and apparently successful advice to cure what sounds to be the same problem.

I'd also suggest clearing the Amped 2 game saves if there is nothing of importance yet saved. Check the UDATA ID before deleting it and after it is cleared check that any TDATA folder of the same ID has been deleted too. Usually its empty but DLC and some other stuff can get written there.

Is your Xbox online? If so disconnect it and retest.

If it were an ACL patching issue the game wouldnt run and you'd get an error message of some sort or simply a blank screen. I don't know about what the other Amped 2 XBE patch fixes do but the ACL patch would probably need to be done after they had been applied. DVD2Xbox can do that using its file manager.

If you're using 720p then the obvious thing is to try it at 480p instead and see if the same problem repeats. Check the MS dash (NTSC) to see that both 480p and 720p video options are ticked.

Finally - try launching it from another dash; UnleashX or XBMC installed as apps.

I can't test this myself because I don't have a copy and can't test it at 720p anyway as my TV only supports 480p and 1080i.

I have the split version of this (Top Spin/Amped 2 promo disc) and it plays fine on my softmod 1.6b

Is the version you are using a rip or do you have the actual retail disc? What you describe sounds like a bad rip and I have encountered before with other games especially DVD9 games like Ninja Gaiden.

Here is a DLC/Update pack for Amped 2 you can try to see if it fixes it
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hfyxrq81u2k5d3k/Amped.2.DLC.Installer.7z/file

And I will rip you a copy of my disc you can try if the above does not fix your issue.

I found a download for Amped 2 (NTSC) just to be able test this problem on my system.

The bottom line is that I've had absolutely no problem booting it from either a C-Xbox Tool created ISO disc, installed (as supplied in folder form) by FTP or ripped from the burned disc to the HDD using DVD2Xbox.

It works fine as far as I can test it in Free Ride and Career mode and I've even tried changing the boarder's clothes/audio options etc and that all works.

Test Conditions:-

1. Xbox NTSC Amped 2 (supplied as 7Zip folder archive 2.3GB)

2. Unpacked with 7Zip which actually reported a minor error (sic) "There are some data after the end of the payload data". When 7Zip reports this it usually has unpacked the rest OK so it does not affect the download.

3. The resulting Amped 2 folder was used with C-Xbox Tool v2.07 to create an XISO.

4. That was burned to DVD-RW at slowest supported speed (x4) using ImgBurn "Write image file to disc" at default settings. Use of DVD-R is mandatory if you're not 100% certain about the disc drive compatibility.

5. The original Amped 2 folder was FTPed using FiliZilla to a v1.6 Xbox chipped with a Xecuter 2.6 (evoxm8plus BIOS probably).

6. The burned disc was put in a v1.1 originally PAL region swapped to NTSC Xbox softmodded (SID) and ripped to the HDD using DVD2Xbox v.78. ACL patching enabled.

7. With both Xboxes the game played perfectly at 480p.

8. I deleted all the newly created Amped 2 data and the installed games afterwards. BTW I was right - the file it creates in TDATA (4d530041) has to be deleted manually. It contains two last session info files.

9. Then both Xboxes were used to test play it from the burned disc directly: no problems.

10. I then repeated the previous tests but reversed on the other Xbox and additionally test launched the disc from an EvoX v3995 dash installed in Apps, XBMC and another version of UnleashX likewise. Also the MS dash.

11). Tests were repeated on the installed game without ACL patching and then with the 'Amped 2 Freeze Fix' patch both on its own and ACL patched afterwards.

In short I gave it a pretty thorough testing and patched or not it booted perfectly in 480p whether installed to HDD or from disc.

There is the possibility the download I found was pre-patched but there was no info provided. Anyway patched or not it does not seem to matter.

So what is the problem here? Well I'd ask what the "three" patches bango_skank used were? Freeze fix? ACL? But what else? From the information I've found the game is supposed to support WS and 720p natively so it can't be that. What was the third patch used?

As I said the freeze fix and ACL patching were not necessary for the download I found and that does tend to suggest that the problem IS with the patching or using it at 720p, as he himself also suggested.

Unfortunately it is the one thing I can't test.

I suggested earlier trying the game at 480p. I'd add to that the recommendation not to apply any patch to begin with. If the game runs fine in 480p as it has for me with two Xboxes under a variety of conditions then the patching, whatever has been used, is most likely the culprit.

Sorry that I took so long reporting back. Had a few things that I needed to do.

Anyway, it looks like my original legit PAL copy works when booted from a locked hard disk on the original MS dashboard in full 720p/60hz glory, so it looks like my little problem has been licked for now.

But for the purposes of full disclosure, I did try to load my downloaded NTSC version of the game - both disc and HDD-transferred - from both DVD2XBOX and Avalaunch. Same thing happened, still freezes on the loading screen when selecting a play option.

I think it just may have been the specific image I was using. I found it on Usenet and it was created by a group calling themselves' CSiSO', about 4.1GB fully extracted. The other two patches beside the more widely used .xbe fix were .PPF patches intended for that very same specific image, one by ProjectX and the other by TmN (theirs included a development kit to retail patch for higher compatibility).

Guess I should've just bit the bullet and downloaded the redump release. Sad

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my v1.1 Xbox was originally PAL and uses the Enigmah app to switch video modes, so that may done something (god knows what though). Bottom line - DON'T use the CSiSO release.

One final question - now that I've locked my hard drive, how exactly do I unlock it when I want to go back to the other dashboards? I've downloaded and FTP'd ConfigMagic to my Xbox's hard drive, but how do I access it?

Good thing I posted this in the newbie forum, hey?

I don't know what is included in that image of Amped 2 you found but it is well over 1GB larger that the one I found (2.3GB Zip unpacking to 2.8GB installed).

Much of the bulk of the game is music tracks so I'm guessing someone added their own Custom Soundtracks (which the game supports) to the download.

I'd blame the freeze problem on the specific download.

What I really do not get now is why your original legit game disc only plays in 720p from the MS dash on a Xbox with a locked HDD. That sounds to me like you actually had two separate problems, the download one and a chip BIOS 720p support issue of some sort. That really is not my area of knowledge.

Locking the HDD should not have changed anything in the way your system operates. It should still be booting to your EvoX dash so you can use ConfigMagic from the Launch menu > Apps to unlock it again.

Booting directly to the MS dash just means that the chip has been turned off. With a locked HDD and the chip off it is effectively back to retail state. Turn it back on and you should get your EvoX dash booting again.

I hope you are not saying the Xbox with the HDD locked is now only booting to the MS dash even with the chip on.

Here try this one. http://www.mediafire.com/file/7ke4e4xqjzdw60e/CDX.7z/file

Its from a region free retail disc I personaly ripped and tested and uses the CDX launcher which seems to help with some games on problem systems. When you launch it will let you choose between Amped 2 and Top Spin.

Top Spin does not work, I removed it since its a crime against humanity to expose anybody to that shite.

Here it is running from HDD at 720P

Oh, don't worry. I've always had my MS dashboard set to be 720p compatible and the game (both the original and the image) has always been able to boot up in 480p/i.

And I erroneously thought that locking my hard drive (I did it from the main menu of the EvoX dashboard) would be permanent/semi-permanent for some reason. I checked again and it wasn't. Total brain fart on my part.

I'll try it later on and report back. If it doesn't work on any of the custom dashboards, then it might be a BIOS issue as previously suggested. I've got next to no experience fiddling with the BIOS or even the hardware itself, so I'd seriously have to do my homework before I dare even think about trying anything.

If it helps, here are some very basic details about my machine's BIOS taken from the EvoX System Management menu:

BIOS
Version: (256)X2 5035
Kernel Version: 1.00.5035.01
Xbox Hardware Info: 00000002 A3 04
