Im looking for something similar to a Pi but that can run either WinXP or Win7 Basic. I was looking at Intel Compute sticks but they are just to pricey for what I need them for. It would drive the cost of just a mini cab to around $250 not including my time.
My plan is to start building custom arcade cabs and kits. I want to do 3 sizes. Full size upright cabs, table top cabs and little single cabs like the old battery operated Pacman machines.
The table top Im building now is for myself and to do some videos for the DIY kit. Solid wood, with 2 8 button JAMMA to USB controls and an EMachines 15.6 inch laptop (1.6Ghz Athlon64, 3GB DDR2 RAM, HD3200 GPU, Win7 x64) to run the system and for screen
Heres the laptop running KIxxx and screen capping it so as you can see I dont need anything to powerful. Wimpy works And as Im sure you can guess my friends dont like to play KI with me

The issue with Pi is nobody has ported KIxxx to it and the MAME ports cant run KI. And I know jack about Pi so dont think I'll be porting KIxxx anytime soon. As of now KI only runs on Original XBOX (KIxxx) and Windows (KIxxx/MAME) Linux (MAME)
I was looking at those old XP netbooks and old laptops just few and far between up here. Really I should be able to buy junk laptops like the one I used for the vids for like 50 bucks. Heck I bought this laptop for a 40 of rum. And thats fine for table top and full size but the little ones it just wont work. For those I need either a tablet, a cheap ass mini PC, a cheap ass compute stick knock off or something like Pi that can run Windows

Will depend on price and how well the cabs sell.

There used to be a whole heaps of the Pi's setup for emulation on ebay in Australia.. I'm not sure about Canada and the US, but I would guess there would be plenty available.. I would just hunt around on ebay to see what is the cheapst possible Pi you could get with the specs you need.. Maybe even do a search on ebay in China.
It certainly sounds like an interesting project, and I suspect you could earn yourself a few bucks.. I built myself a custom JAMMA / PC arcade machine in a cocktail cabinet a few years back when i was recovering from surgery.. I installed just about every game system I could find.. Here is a link: http://www.xboxone-hq.com/postp893.html I ended up just running HyperSpin and all of the emulators from an i3 PC. It worked out perfect.
I can still install original arcade JAMMA boards if I want to, without a problem.. I think I have around 5-8 boards left that are still functioning.

Pis themselves wont work. Ive actually been getting Id say "badgered" but that seems even a bit extreme, by some fellows that want KIxxx on Pi and 360. And its not easy. When I did the PC version it was a literal first. I ported the XBOX code to PC then updated it and it took me over 2 years. I just dont have that kind of time anymore. Theres a reason KI is the holy grail so to speak. Its like the retro worlds version of Crysis. Coded right (U64) it will run like a champ on the crappiest hardware known to man. Coded wrong (MAME) it will require your first born and still not be as accurate as U64
Ive been thinking about doing a Linux port because theres jack for "Pi"esque style boards that run Winblows
