Stay away from the 1.6 and 1.0. 1.6 cant TSOP or RAM upgrade and the 1.0 had faulty power plugs that liked to break and start fires Not to mention they used trashy Thomson drives.
1.1 to 1.5 is pretty much identical only huge difference is the DVD drives and I highly recommend getting a Philips. Thomson was bad for reading burned discs and Samsung was notorious for the band that drives the drawer to fail and for needing regular pot tweaks.
If you have no intention of mods beyond installing the chip (no RAM, TSOP or CPU upgrade) then the revision doesnt matter so much and the DVD drive should be the deciding factor

Ok so ill shoot for the 1.5v and go with a phillips model disc drive. Lastly you can upgrade the cpu? or do you mean the GPU? (Graphics Processing Unit)
I do however have intentions to heavily modifiy the hardware as much as i see fit. What exactly is TSOP?
Thanks for your time

When Microsoft made the first revisions of XBOX (pre 1.6) what they did was pin a chip to the TSOP. It had the kernel etc on it, theyd transfer to the onboard and wipe the chip. So when you TSOP you essentially return your XBOX to that factory state only you flash the chip with a custom BIOS. Its like a poor mans mod chip
All XBOXs support CPU upgrading (ala DreamBox or Trusty XBOX) just the 1.6 didnt have the extra 2 slots for RAM so you cant beef it to 128MB, not to mention it used bulk aftermarket Hynix RAM and its rare to actually get a 1.6 with 64MB of usable RAM. In most cases its been locked and underclocked and leaves you with say 61MB or usable RAM. I see it with my main XBOX (1.6b) KIxxx is very RAM intensive and Im short 2MB which wreaks havoc. I do a build it works fine on my 1.4 at the cabin but runs like a guy with a broken leg on my 1.6b

Ok i believe i've got a understanding of it now. But i still wonder really what is the performance or real world advantage of having done such a mod. Isn't this basically what a X3 modchip does with the 4 bios banks, is switches bios kernels for various purposes?! I suppose that during the consoles haydays of having use of XBL the console could make better use of those banks but nowadays i can't say i see such a reason to have that mod. Unless you can enlighten me as to a better reason or reasons to have it.
Also the Ram is the alike type ordeal so i've read and spoken with others that there is no real performance advantage to it other than a bit fast loading and management in the menu's. Which again if that's all that is garnered, then i may consider my odds without.
KIxxx , thanks so much for your paitence to explain these subjects with me, i greatly apprieciate it. = )

The advantage of a TSOP is cost saving. Since its a chip you dont have to buy and install. Its like an unflashed single bank chip just waiting for you to flash
As for RAM there are very real advantages especially if your a fan of arcade games. You can run more games in FBL/MAMEOX, my KIxxx emu will run at 60FPS in KI2 on levels like Spinal and Jago (as opposed to 48-54FPS) also you can run Chihiro games. Obviously its meaningless for actual XBOX games but homebrew most certainly can and does take advantage
The same is true of the CPU upgrade plus with a CPU upgrade you can run much higher quality videos via XBMC. 720P will run on stock but it has to be low bitrate which means shitty quality. With a CPU/RAM upgrade you can run high quality video.
End of the day though it all depends on what YOU want from your XBOX. Im happy with a stock softmodded XBOX, anything I cant run on XBOX I run on PC. Got my game room with a PS1, Gamecube, XBOX, 360, laptop and gaming PC hooked to a 32 inch Toshiba 1080P TV. And Im not a big gamer. I like my Resident Evil and Dead Rising and I love Killer Instinct 1. So it meets my needs. And that is all that matters. If a stock XBOX meets your needs then forget chips, and RAM upgrades etc and just grab Babylon and softmod the sucker and be done with it
