^^ it just "does" help!
it changes no info of the data in any way but how the disk itself is finalised!
some dvd players using backups require this setting! (not many but some)
an imagefile can be anything, they're not the concern, it's how the disk is written!
so no, there's no change in the "compatibility" sense, just the media/data layout is all... _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

You burn as DVD ROM to exploit a security hole Halofan. MS in their infinite stupidity released bonus discs (DVD video's) that had an xbe to play em on XBOX but were done like a normal DVD instead of the backwards ISO format XBOX games employed, so that they would work on DVD players. So when you burn a game as a DVD-ROM, the XBOX thinks its one of those bonus discs and launches the xbe because its MS signed.

I know this topic is old, but running backups on an unmodded xbox should have been done by now.
In Half Life 2, there is default.xbe and hl2_xbox.xbe
When played, it will load some videos or something and then a loading screen comes up. That loading screen is loading hl2_xbox.xbe.
If we can get a backup of Half Life 2 to run on an xbox, all we have to do is replace the hl2_xbox.xbe with some other application, probably something that will mod the xbox.
I only have DVD-R atm and apparently I can't change the book type like you said, but I was trying a different way. I'm using hl2_xbox.xbe for XBMC and recompiling the .ISO with QWIX.
In the Half Life 2 folder, there is defaul.xbe and default.unpatched. I deleted default.xbe and renamed default.unpatched to default.xbe.
I'm going to try to reburn with the specific settings you said, but it should be noted that DVD type and drive compatibility seems to be a requirement.
I have a Sony Optiarc 7710H. I can install a custom firmware for all kinds of added features but it seems bitsettings (changing book type) is only supported for DVD+R, not DVD-R.
According to the screenshots posted, you did not change the book type the way I read elsewhere, so I will try with your settings.
Regardless, the default.xbe for Half Life 2 might be the only XBE being checked for digital signature from Microsoft.
Also, does anyone know where to get the original XBE's for games?

Realized this was terribly old and retracted my statements.

Indeed.
This was a cul-de-sac or at least niche interest matter even when the topic was started. That is not to belittle the work done to discover the technique of course.
However, it is so relatively easy to softmod or even TSOP/chip a Xbox that wanting to play a backup disc on a stock Xbox is for most intents and purposes utterly redundant. At most it is merely a demonstration of something that, apparently, can be done not something actually useful.

Actually this is quite difficult if you do not have a computer with an IDE port or any games. The amount of work around I have to do to softmod with hotswap is ridiculous. You would think the maker of XboxHDM would've released his tool as a program on Linux instead of compiling a bootable linux.
I'm waiting for an IDE to USB adapter to come from China, and when it gets here since I do not have a flash drive and my computer won't boot this image correctly with DriveDroid on my Android phone and the bios probably won't even recognize it as hda0, I have to setup a VirtualBox image to route the physical disc to a virtual one AFTER i manage to somehow mount the drive in my linux (fusefatx, bad luck in the past) and then work with the drive from VirtualBox with my xboxhdm image.
Not nearly as simple as it used to be.
Which is why I was so interested in this.
Since this topic is getting replies, hopefully one of you can answer this question I have.
I have a newer 1.6 xbox with the 10gb seaqate hard drive. I heard it is only formatted for 8gb so I was wondering if I could allocate the leftover 2gb to the E partition because I do not want an F partition. Thanks

There is a XBHDM designed to work form a flash drive, XBoxHDM23USB-Beta 2 is that what you're going to use?
Really the game save exploit method is always the way to go. You should still easily find an original Splinter Cell disc (must be the same region as the console) on eBay or Amazon. Unless you live somewhere really remote even with the shipping it should only cost a few £/$/€.
Then use the softmod package of choice. Most up to date and arguably the best ever is Rocky5's 2016 Softmod. Google that and you'll find his YT tutorial without much difficultly which explains everything and links to downloads.
F:\partition is optional but with the retail drive and softmod all space available is allocated to E:\. C:\, X:\, Y:\ and Z:\ are fixed volumes. Remember also that a Seagate 10GB HDD isn't really 10GB, it is 10,000,000,000 Bytes about 9.3GB. The unused space is practically useless.
TBH there is little point in softmodding if you're not going to upgrade the HDD as well. IDE 40GB - 160GB ones are still quite common and dirt cheap. But with a IDE/SATA adapter + 80 wire IDE cable any HDD size is possible up to 2TB.
First softmod the retail HDD then clone it using Chimp261812 (Rocky5 has also worked on that in the last two years) and keep the retail HDD as a safety net. You probably won't ever need it but it's the best backup bar none if something does happen to the softmod. That is really its only value.
