Post subject: CHANGE DASHBOARDS

Hello there,

I am quite new to softmodding and have just purchased an XBMC softmodded xbox from ebay, which comes with only that dashboard installed (and MS dash) and also an 80gb hdd with lots of games installed.

I would like to install EVOX as the only dashboard and also delete all other content on the hdd so that I am left with just the latest version EVOX and otherwise a completely blank hdd.

I am familiar with FTP and how to delete the games so I think it's just advice on how to delete XBMC and install the latest version of EVOX as the only dashboard that I require advice with.

many thanks,
Karl

I have already looked this up on a google and haven't found anything that sounds specifically right so I could use any help I can get here. Thanks

Post subject: How to erase your HDD and install EvoX

Here's what I would do:

1: Get Auto-Installer-Deluxe.
You can get it in the VIP downloads on this site, or download with bit-torrent here.

2: Burn it to DVD and put it in your Xbox.

CAUTION: DO NOT POWER OFF XBOX DURING THIS PROCESS OR YOU COULD LOSE YOUR SOFT-MOD

3: Format your HDD. (This will erase everything, including your softmod.)
Select 'Format / Prepare HDD' > 'Format Large HDD'

4: After it's finished formatting, prepare HDD for Softmod. Select 'Prepare E Drive.' Repeat this for F and G drive.

5: Now you need a copy of the Microsoft Dash to install the softmod or remove it in the future.
Go back to the main menu and select 'Backup / Restore HDD' > 'Create MS Backup from AID"

6: Now we're going to re-install the softmod. Go back to the main menu and select 'Softmod One Click Installs' > 'Single Boot w/Virtual C'

7: Next we'll install EvoX. Return to the main menu and select 'Dashboard Section' > 'Install E Drive Dash' > 'Install EvolutionX'

IT IS NOW SAFE TO POWER OFF YOUR XBOX IF YOU WISH

You should now have an empty HDD with only EvoX installed.

I would recommend using ConfigMagic to back up your eeprom. (It's in the apps section of AID.) Otherwise, you're finished!

There may be other ways to accomplish this, but this always works for me.

msny thanks although today I broke my xbox by mistake. I forgot to lock the new hdd so now when it boots I get error 05. This issue is that I do not own a tower pc only a laptop. I bought a SATA to usb converter as I read I needed to boot into the locked hdd and use XHDM to fix it however, my laptop would not let me enter the bios as it is a packard bell laptop. So ive spent a lot of money and am feeling quite upset. Is there now way to lock a hdd using a laptop? Unfortunately I do not have the eeprom as the console was purchased from ebay and I never took a backup of it. I was able to get access to the hdd though xplorer360 (using the SATA to usb converter) but could not find it there.I promised I have used google lots today and cannot find the answer.

Thanks

Did you ever back up your eeprom file? It sounds like you were probably messing around with ConfigMagic.

If you never backed it up, I think your only option is to install a modchip. This will allow it to boot with an unlocked HDD.

If you did back it up, you will probably find it in E/ or E/Backup on the HDD. You can put it in a different modded xbox (or possibly plug it into your PC) to access it.

Your eeprom contains the locking key for your HDD. Once you have this key, you can use ConfigMagic on the other xbox, or xboxHDM on your PC to lock the drive.

*NOTE: I do this on a PC tower, with access to the IDE cables. I'm not sure about doing it with a laptop.

You must have the eeprom.bin file to lock your HDD. It is originally stored on the Xbox motherboard.

You can use another modded Xbox to lock the HDD if you have your eeprom file.

There is no way to lock your HDD without the eeprom file or a modchip.

*Correction: I think you actually may be able to lock it with another Xbox. However, without your eeprom file, the HDD lock key won't match the motherboard on your Xbox, so it still wouldn't work.

You can think of your eeprom.bin file like a key to the HDD. Your key is locked in the trunk.

ok in a turn of events, heard back from the guy on ebay that all I had to do to get rid of error 05 was hold down the power button when turning on. When I did this a purple evox logo was in the top left. However, when I first tried to get the console to boot (the 80gb it came with) it wouldn't. This could be because yesterday in my attempt to fix error 05 I deleted some files on the hdd using xplorer360 (the eeprom was never found). So now the hdd won't turn on which is why the console won't. So I tried to use the retail hdd which gives me error 16. Any ideas how I can fix the hdd which wont turn on?

thanks

Error 16 means that the Xbox can't find the menu file to set the clock. I think you should be able to use xboxhdm or an installer disc to replace it. It's part of the dashboard files, I think. I'm most familiar with Auto Installer Deluxe, which has an option to install an Microsoft Dash backup to your HDD, that might work.

The good news is that I think with an error 16, that means it's already passed the lock check.

Honestly though, I have no idea. I'm not even sure if you can boot a DVD if it can't get past the HDD checks.

You could also look into using chimp on another modded xbox to clone a working HDD. I don't know, I've never used that program before. Just giving you ideas.

Good luck.

luckily the seller has agreed to fix the console. I assume he will just fit a new 80 gb compatible hdd and make it work in xhdm. As right now when the 80gb hdd is pluged in, the console won't start. I attempted to plug the hdd into my friends tower pc and it still wouldnt turn on - does this mean the hdd is broken forever? And am I right in thinking that the console is fixable by installing a new hdd?

As long as no hardware is damaged, a new harddrive that has the correct dashboard setup and is locked with the correct eeprom key will work.

One thing to remember is that the harddrive is interchangable. One HDD can break, but as long as you have that eeprom key binary, you could lock any other compatible harddrive and make it work on the console.

That's the problem. He doesn't have it.

Ok so I now have an xbox compatible 80gb hdd and a tower pc. Is there a way I can make the hdd work with my auto installer deluxe soft modded Xbox? This retail hdd gives me an error 21. I don't have the EEPROM for either but hear there is a way to crack it?
