Hi all,

So I have two Xboxs here. The first I bought ages ago. I softmodded it and have EvolutionX installed on it. I really don't remember exactly what I did, but I think it was MechAssault/SplinterCell exploit. Since then it's sat doing nothing for a long time.

I now want to make it a Linux server box.

So I've spent the evening trying to get that going and failing. I installed the Xebian 1.1.4 from disk and that worked well. However, on reboot I just get the EvolutionX. I can't seem to make it boot into the HDD install.

I don't want to play games on it really, so thought about installing the cromwell bios, but I can't get that to work either. It's very difficult to google as so many pages are no longer valid on the subject.

The second Xbox is a hardware modded one that someone gave me as they no longer wanted it. I have absolutely no idea about hardware mods. So far all I know about it is that there's a small PCB hanging out the front which just has 3 switches and an LED.

The switches are labelled Enable/Disable, Protect/Unprotected, Bank 1/Bank 2.

Any ideas on what it is? It doesn't want to boot the Xebian disk. This isn't as important though. Though if it's easier to get linux working on this one, then I'm all ears.

Thanks for any help guys.

It sounds like you have a modchip installed in the second system. I would assume that would be easier to use to make it a linux box, but I wouldn't know how to go about it, maybe renaming the linux launch file to defualt.xbe or something of the sort.
Good luck though!
