Hello all Very Happy ,
As i am new to this site, hopefully I have posted in the correct area!

I have a strange issue with my original, un-modded Xbox. when turning Xbox on for the first time around, all is fine at the start solid green light on front of Xbox, can view the Xbox splash screen on the TV. but as soon as the time and date prompt or dashboard loads, all of a sudden the display to TV is lost, the Xbox front displays a flashing orange light, the fan speeds up faster and shortly after the Xbox turns off by itself. when trying a few times the Xbox turns on with the same orange light, no display whatsoever and Xbox turns off again.
My Xbox is V1.1
Hope someone can help

Orange flashing is got to do with video
and fan speed up means it overheated,
Check for good air circulation inside your Xbox
remove any fluff and dust build up for a better air flow in the Xbox.

Thank you for all of your help KenM-64
I have opened the Xbox, cleaned out all the dust from case and motherboard but i am still getting the orange light flashing and Xbox turning off. i have checked heatsinks for Cpu and Gpu are mildly warm and cannot find any single component which is overheating. could it be a single component that is overheating, causing the issue? if so what would be the most likely components

A few more things you can try are:
The V1.1 is a an older Xbox like my V1.0 the silicon heat transfer compound
needed replacing under the heat sinks as the old stuff dried up and went hard, If the smaller heat sink is stuck good don't remove, it's OK. Also clean the AV jack on the back of the Xbox with cotton bud and alcohol, Mother board needs to be removed for the rest of the repairs. It could also need the AV jack pins re-soldering under the board with gel flux to make solder flow into pins better this is a common problem, try not to bridge these pins, Clean off any excess flux with alcohol & a brush.
Sometimes controller port 1 stops working in V1.1 upwards to V1.4 Xbox's
caused by the The 1 farad time & date memory capacitor that leaks acid all over the front top and bottom of the motherboard and destroys one or two resistors and a some SMD transistors, you need to wash all that acid off with alcohol off the board as it is conductive and shorting other components out.
I put a 6 farad capacitor in there that holds memory & time for four days
takes an hour of game play to charge it, But hell i play for more than 2 hours or at a time. So check these things out to see what other damage the capacitor has done to the board, Acid crystallizes and goes hard and needs scraping off, also corrodes copper tracks on the board,(Controller ports)
Check for continuity with a multimeter from one end of the copper tracks to the other end, of any tracks going past the capacitor front end of the board, it sometime takes out two or three copper tracks.
And also check power supply for bad capacitors with domed top or shrunk outer plastic coating,(looks like shirt too short)on capacitor.

I hope this will help you & others fix these great Xbox consoles..

Sorry for the delay in replying
The heat compound finally came through the post!
I have removed all of the old compound and applied fresh both on the Cpu and Gpu as the old compound was finished.
The xbox stayed on for 1-2 mins, the best so far.
I thought about a loose joint or track break somewhere on the board, but i cannot find anything wrong, AV port solder is fine no track breaks and has been cleaned, but it is still not working.
The controller is in port1 and works fine.
I have also checked the Cap for retaining time and this is fine as well all components seem to be okay cannot find one which is overheating.

Give the AV jack a re-solder on the back of the board, Anyway.
It is a common problem on all Xbox's, A must do thing,
So we can rule this out. Between the jack and board you can't see.
You can't see the fine hair line cracks in the pins just re-solder all pins try not to bridge the AV pins use a gel flux to help make solder flow better into the pins. Also put a heat sink on the
NVidia MCPX X3 chip as these run quite warm at times.
Flashing Orange is a Video problem.

You need to check for corroded tracks on both sides of the board,
Look very closely for anything that doesn't look right on the board.
I had corroded tracks that looked like some dirt on the board,
I tried to clean the dirt off that would not come off easy,
I had to scrape it gently and lightly sand it with wet/dry 1200 grit to prepare it for soldering,
it had eaten into the tracks.
This was a problem i found on one of my stock V1,0 Xbox.

If the AV lead is not plugged in you get Flashing orange.
Have you got another AV lead you can try on that Xbox.
Any other error would flash Red/Green.
I have run out of ideas that cause flashing orange.
May be someone here reading may have some more things you can try.

I have tried 2 av cables both work fine in another Xbox. This Xbox is very strange, I too thought would be leaking cap or something easy to fix but cannot find anything wrong, have tried to identify anything which gets warm, only thing which is barley warm is the GPU heatsink (barely warmer than rest of components)

could a faulty power board cause the issue (it is the only thing left I haven't checked fully).

Are you sure no one has done any work on that Xbox.
You where the first to break the stickers on the bottom.
A power supply from a V1.0 or V1.1 will work in there fine,
But i don't think it's your power supply at fault here.
I have fixed a lot of Xbox's in my time never had
flashing orange. Only once did i get that fault when i was wriggling the AV
jack when it flashed orange and shut down on me,
I soldered the AV pins & it never happened again.
Or if I forgot to plug the AV lead all the way in.
I hope you get this Xbox going again.
