Thank you for the advice. We naturally tried to attain SPPVs installer, but no luck so far. The FTP seems to be down and the other options are not panning out.
However, we have finally completed the softmod (unleashX) and just began working on how to make the system useful and friendly.
I'm pretty new to the Xbox scene myself as I have always been a fan of Sony but I must say if I knew all I did now about the original Xbox, I would have bought one years ago. Some of you may recognize the name from a site that is not in good terms here, I agree with why it is as well.
I just bought mine around the beginning of June for $25 with 4 duke controllers, 5 breakaway cables, 3 games (none were that good), all the cables including an S-video adapter, 2 sealed madcatz controller extensions, 3 controller extensions, 2 steering wheel controllers and the original manual I sold off the 4 dukes for a total of $40 and bought 4 s-style for $30, all were official. Sold the steering wheel controllers for $20 total and the s-video adapter was sold for $5.
I used the money that I got from the sales to buy a female USB adapter cable and Splinter Cell (thank you SPPV for correcting people saying Platinum Hits doesnt work because it does).
I used a controller extension to make the USB transfer device and used the left overs from them to make me another cable for using the Xbox controller on my PC I downloaded the SID files for Splinter Cell from the site that wont be named. I then preformed the softmod, installing Unleash X as my dash. I then grabbed SPPVs AID disc and installed XMBC as my dash and Unleash as an app.
Then I bought a 300 GB Seagate HDD and upgraded to it using Chimp and now am in the process of loading emulators, games, movies and TV shows onto it
Thank you SPPV for your xtra installers as they have saved me a bunch of time scouring the web trying to find what I was looking for. I never burned it to a disc actually and just took the media from it, as I had to rename all of my ROMs, and FTP'd everything over with the newest madmab emulators
Forgot to mention that my Xbox is a v1.0 and it had a WD 8 GB HDD and still has the Thomson DVD drive that I am looking to replace in the future.
Thanks to all of the Xbox guys and the work you do making things simple for newbs like myself when it comes to console modding!

No worries Catch_2030. Any true modder or person who needs help is always welcome here. In a while Hobbs will turn attention to XBOX-Hq and will be implementing my "fixes" for the site setup, and we have started to branch out adding DC and PS2 pros to our staff to make XBOX-Hq the true Retro console softmod depot. And as time goes by, more great devs see we are the last app/exploit team still active and collaborate with us.
And for future refrence Catch all my Installers are HDD ready so you can just FTP them to your HDD and run em, no disc used.

SPPV, I have been at this for about 2 months and you are already a household name. Thanks for the links, I am enjoying the challenge of all this.
I have downloaded your installer from ISO Zone and am working on it right now. First I am hoping to have the XBOX FTP run through a ubuntu machine hooked to the TV. Probably easier ways to do it, but whatever.
All in all, the ROMs are good. ONly issue so far is Final Fantasy 3: saving through the game does no work. However, state saves do. That is just nitpicking
We will continue using this site and contributing (money at first only) but maybe later can help with the nuts n' bolts.

I am currently downloading the EMU installer. I have a question: not sure what to do with the .001 .002 etc files. That may seem basic, but the .001 file can be opened with 7zip but not the others. How does the sorcery work?

because it's a SPLIT archive....
all the data is divided across the archive parts created..
it's NOT magic but LOGIC!
[edit]
ALL the other parts (you can't view the same) contain the rest of the data and therefore INTEGRAL to each other! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

Ok, how do I use them together? I have created an archive and added all of them, but that just creates 3 separate.

okay, if i'm understanding you correctly, you want the contents of the DL?
....
fair enough!
1, ensure the whole download of SPPV's emu installers is in the SAME directory!
2, USING 7zip, right click on the FIRST archive part and highlight 7zip > then select "extract here" and let the archive handler work it's magic! (or you can define target by selecting "extract files" and manually point the extraction to any destination of your choice!)
Code:
dir/
SPPV's shit.7z.001 (that's the file you're extracting from)
SPPV's shit.7z.002 (unusable alone but is REQUIRED for the whole archive to be expanded)
SPPV's shit.7z.003 (same as above line, LEAVE them all together)
don't try to join them, you may get a damaged result and lose your DL til you rip it again!
.............
if you need to CREATE a split/divided archive, "right click" over the item/directory to be packed and highlight 7zip > select "add to archive" and look to the lower of the summoned GUI for "split to volumes, bytes" text entry bar and enter any values you desire to create a divided archive and hit "okay" and sit back til done!
(ie: 350M or 2G to create a split filed archive of the values entered!)
hope it helped, i need to get f*cked!
[edit]
if you're after repacking the archive for your own storage then you'll need to unpack it anyway and start fresh...
if so, go with above!
all the best!
[edit again]
if you want a clean 1-filed archive, you can skip the output size values and jump to the "okay" button! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

Thanks. I must have previously done it correctly, but did not think it worked because the 2 other extensions stayed put. However, now I have the 4.6 GB of SPPVs goodness. I am now on to the step where I streamline my dashboard to make it user friendly for the rest of the family. As it sits, I must enter the file explorer and navigate to the indivitual DEFAULT.XBE files. I truly appreciate the help.

anytime!
you have the goods, sorted!
on a side note of da$h customisation (it may help or not?)
if you're using "unleashx" AND you happen to have the ir remote dvd playback kit (the thing that enables you to play dvd's on a stock default M$-box) you can designate up to TEN xbe's to the numerical keypad of the ir remote!
that can be found in UNLX settings!
......
this actually can apply to games and emus!
good if you wanna jump straight into a game after console bootup without having to go through the relative da$h menus..
(up to ten xbe's can be assigned to the ir remote...any xbe as well! the world is yours to blow up) _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

Wow.... I actually forgot about this site for a while! To make you guys feel even better, I still use my xbox all the time. Tony Hawk's American Wasteland at least a few times a week, media streaming via xbmc, and I still compile xbmc4xbox.... Guess I'm still in the game, huh?

Hello, I am new to this, had a Gamecube back in the day... Bought a soft modded xbox from ebay that from what it seems was a splinter cell exploit. The Linux save is on there etc... The Xbox has been opened at some point though as stickers are defaced etc. I want to upgrade the HDD but not sure of how its been modded, and i would not like to brick it. I downloaded AID from isozone, burned it, and it boots the disc fine - I can play back ups, but within the AID disc I get errors when trying to install dashboards or re install the mod if you see what I mean?
XBOX v 1.1
8gb HDD
Phillips DVD
Got a nice 80gb Hitachi to go in there but alas I have an Intel PC... ;(
