The error code does it matter if it's not 12. When I get a error 11 code instead of a error code when I disconnect the DVD drive from Xbox.
it also wont let me make the changes you are asking me to do on the drives. slave and primary drive are set on auto and wont let me change them for some reason. is their a way around that.
Thanks

Theres no such thing as auto Primary/Slave. Jumper settings are controlled by a little plug on the back of the HDD that you move. Detection on the other hand some BIOS dont include manual/auto but that usualy only gives problems with Intel PCs. And yes you want E12, it causes the XBOX to unlock the HDD. You need to unplug both cables from the back of the DVD drive to force E12.

I'm sorry I misunderstood you on the primary and slave on the hd. Really never changed that. So, so I need to do the on the Xbox hd right. As for e12 I did unhook the power and IDE cable and still don't get the e12 it's still e11. Is there any other way to to this.
Thanks

Exact same thing happened to me ages ago, I recovered it by using an old PC and hotswapping the HDD. (Long terms, I know. It's really not too hard though!). Once I was booted up I used XPlorer360 to access the HDD, then I simply transferred the Xbox dashboard files back onto the hard drive and I was good to go again!

I cant seem to be able to download the ms dashboard 5960 files.
I can't hotswap, for the hd is locked. I tried booting up computer first and then hooking up hd, but computer don't seem to be able to see it. I can try booting up computer again and hooking up hd and seeing if I can. If don't see it I will run xplorer 360 to see if I can see hd. Once I can see it. where do I put the ms dashboard file at.
thanks in advance

LMFAO The whole point of hotswap is to "unlock" a "locked" HDD
