There is for PC but not XBOX. I think its called NesterDC. Emulation is how it is Prehistoric because it takes a lot of power to software emulate hardware. I have a top of the line gaming PC and it doesnt even have enough juice to do a true 1 to 1 emulation of SNES without losing frames etc. Its th old arguement f accuracy vs usability.
Well that is sick...
I just find it interesting that the Xbox emulates SNES for example very well, but does not support like for example SEGA Dreamcast...
But if a high end gaming PC even runs into problems; that is really sick...
I still keep thinking about getting a good computer sometimes in order to play all the stuff the xbox is unable to do.
Getting all the consoles seems better, regarding that emulation as you say is prehistoric at the moment, but it's of course the question of budget.
What do you recommend in general?
Would I be better off collecting the old consoles or going for a high end PC in some years or so?
Anyways... Cheers!

It depends on if your a collector or not. I have a Gamecube, a couple of PS1 and GameGears, some XBOXs and 2 PCs. All I ever use is my XBOX and PC. They can run virtualy everything from the other consoles. The few PS1 games that dont emulate well I play on my PS1, and the few N64 games that dont work well on XBOX I play on my PC.
Personaly I vote for a gaming rig. Many great PC games and ports of 360/PS3 games you can play. And looks way better on PC too. Resident Evil 5 and 6 are great examples, the PC versions look amazing compared to the console versions.

Understand.
I'm basically into collecting but on the other hand a PC seems better for me I guess regarding, as you say, it covers it all.
My basic problem with collecting of older stuff except the Xbox (which is the greatest console ever made ) is that the CDs etc. slowly die out and I don't want to spend money and time in learning how to softmod a gamecube or whatever to backup the software, you know?
And therefore I'll defentely be going for a rig, which in combo with the Xbox-modding seems to be the best.
You pretty much persuaded me to go for a PC sometime; it is the perfect counterpart to my console.
Thanks for the convo, man!

you're ALL sik!
nobody mentioned ar tonelico or star ocean - till the end of time, not to mention breath of fire V, they're NOT on the xbox! (WTF?! i need drugs now!)
and a f*ckload of SHMUPS never saw their way to the xbox such as thunderforce VI, (STV coin-op) espgaluda (pgm/cave coin-op) ibara (toaplan/cave coin-op) mushihimesama (pgm/cave coin-op) radirgy - precious (alfa sytem/success coin-op) and SOOOO many more that the xbox NEVER saw, DON'T get me started on this slippery slope of pissing on pasties because this is why i HATE competition...too many exclusives for one machine vs the rest when feasibly, the other machines could do the same game. (xbox being the better of the two consoles obviously but when you start emulating "some" coin-op roms, not even the xbox does it that well UNLESS the game was re-written from the ground up (having the original dev source to hand naturally)
ps2? not a competitor but it's the one with the most games sadly!
games on the ps2 that are released on the xbox are superior in every way...
the GTA lot for the xbox is far better (in overall performance) than the ps2 versions, true it was released after the ps2 lot but they didn't bother to refine some of the bugs out of them as they did the xbox releases! (academic comparison there)
...................
the xbox versions of games i'll take over the ps2 any day of the week but for the games the ps2 has (that mainly appeal to my "tastes") that wins hands down..sorry folks, just missed it!
(ancient thread yeah but so what!? i'm ancient too)
[edit]...i know the thread spawned wasn't in relation to "competing" machines, just it bothers me when i recall what's on one but not the other... (both are good consoles in their own ways) _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!
