Correct. If the X3 chip works the only thing you'll probably ever use configmagic for is to backup your eeprom.

You can backup your eeprom with X3 Config Live.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the tips and help that you've given me so far. I know that I'll have more (hopefully intelligent) questions when my Xbox gets here and I can actually start working with it.

Prehistoricman, I thought you were on holiday... Laughing

Hot Damn, the Xbox is here! Smile

She's a little worn but not too bad. Gave it a good cleaning on the outside before I cracked it open to check the guts. Seeing that I have NO idea where it's been or what someone MIGHT have done to it, I figured I'd open it up first before I put power to it.

Well, no surprizes here -

Stock 8GB hard drive. This will get replaced! -

Now, the best part -

Everything seems to be intact - pin header, wiring, no scorch marks! -

Upon checking and cleaning the internals, it's got a Conexant Video chip, fan on the GPU and was made in Mexico in 2002 according to the date/serial #. All of that would make it a Version 1, I believe.

Fired it up with all dips to off and pushing the power/eject together got me the Purple/Blue light! I got the Network Flashing up and running and flashed the X3 with the x3.3294.bin file. It kinda took a long time but it finally did it's thing. It took me a few minutes to figure out that if you hold down the White button on the controller while starting up the Xbox, it will boot the X3 Utility program (told you I was a noob!) Rolling Eyes

Played around with that for awhile then loaded the MS Dashboard and checked the version. I set up the network settings and then fired up Coffee Cup Free FTP on my computer and FTP'd Avalauch over to it. Didn't care for it so I FTP'd UnleashX dashboard and tried that. I cannot remember at the moment what version it was but it was kind of buggy. Left it in while I loaded Auto Installer Deluxe v4.53

After that I removed Avalaunch and UnleashX and re-installed UnleashX from the AID disk. That distro seems to work a lot better than the one I FTP'd over the first time! I also installed XBMC and I'm using that right now just to get used to it.

I'm planning on getting a larger HD, maybe a 300 or 500GB and while I have it open for that, I'll pull the heat sinks, clean them and the chips and put on some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. Maybe I 'll do the fan upgrade too.

That's where I'm at right now!

Mike Mr. Green

grab AID (Auto Installer Deluxe), you won't be sorry.. It will help you upgrade your hdd.. Since you have a modchip you can just backup everything, then install a larger hdd and format using AID! simple!

Worse case scenario is you put your original hdd back in with all your settings still original!

Yes, the AID disc that you have is AWESOME!!!

As Hobbs said above, when you get a new HDD, you can back everything up to it OR just use AID and format it and install what ever dashboard you may want to install. I personally use XBMC as my main dashboard, because like you said before, its very powerful and you can tweak the crud out of it!

I would suggest before doing too much to go ahead and upgrade the hard drive first (and clean it up like you said course Razz).

I also want to let you know if you have AIM, Yahoo! or Skype, feel free to PM e on here and get my name for whoever you prefer and you can ask me any questions you want to over chat!

EDIT: Forgot to tell you that the main reason I can help is because I too have an X3 chip, but have also performed a TSOP and softmod on many XBOX's in my modding history. Used to actually have a small little repair page set up a long time ago and folks would ship me the xbox, I would fix it up and send it back. So I do have a good bit of experience myself!

Thanks for the tips TheRealHypnotiX!

I've upgraded to a 300 GB but after loading games and some movies on it, I need to go with a bigger drive! I want to have everything on my Xbox and not have to load anything!

I have installed XBMC as my dashboard of choice. Thanks for the offer of help - I just might take you up on that! Laughing

If you want XBMC builds go to sschs.com rather than the official site, the unofficial builds are much more stable, and all I use in my installers. Theres nothing wrong with softmod and in fact if you know how to code proper and have a 4920 can run any BIOS you want from memory. And unless you are looking to change the flubber screen theres no real advantage to a hard mod over soft, locking an HDD only takes 3 seconds. I know its blasphemous to say on a site that most users chip but its true Very Happy

Hey SPPV!

Thanks for the tip on the XBMC builds - I'll check out that site. There is nothing wrong with a softmod, I ended up with a chip only because I scored an Xbox off Ebay with a Xecuter 3 already in it.

Softmod or a chip, I guess it's what ever you're comfortable doing!

No problem, I just threw in the softmod bit cause one of the other mods in an earlier post made it sound like its a bad thing, when its not. If you want up to date XBMC, emus, apps, HDD build programs etc just keep an eye on the links at the bottom of my posts. I release new installers with latest stable builds end/1st of every month Very Happy

Thanks man, I will keep an eye on your releases! I'm glad to see that the Xbox 1 still has a following and developers! I lurked around here for a long time listening and reading up on everything I could and came to a conclusion - most of the people that were bad mouthing either softmodding OR chips usually were looking for easy answers and did not take the time to use/install or program properly!

You hit the nail on the head Mike, many only use one method so it becomes king. Or read a few tuts/reviews by someone whose partial to one method so it becomes gospel. All methods have their perks and downfalls. Personaly Im partial to softmod just cause I hate soldering but I do have a TSOP and an XBOX with an Aladdin chip. And once theyre booted only way I can see the diffrence is because my softmod XBOX has the HD kit and my others have just standard AV packs Very Happy Eventhough I can just pop a disc in to do a build on my TSOP/Aladdin I still use Autobuilder on em so other than skipping the reboot to lock the HDD I never see a difference. And I just updated my links with the new builds. XBMC Xtreme April29 build and Emu Installer Full both work fine whatever your mod happens to be and are stable like a cinder block Very Happy

I agree, all methods are awesome!! I started with a soft mod, moved to a modchip and then went to a TSOP flash. All seemed to do what they needed to do (allow you to backup games and videos and install custom dashboards and etc.). I would honestly go with a TSOP every time because I'm not too big on soldering any more these days and literally only takes about 2 minutes for me to pull her apart and connect the dots so to speak. But the soft mod is my favorite because it's where I started, without the soft mod I probably wouldn't be where I am today with my knowledge on Xbox 1 modding!!!!
