Hi there,

My apologies if this has been asked before, I've just skimmed through the X2VGA2 threads and couldn't find something that point me further. Or perhaps I've missed it...

Here it goes : after accidentally stumbling upon a thread that mentioned HD output for the old XBOX, I went online, found a X2VGA2 for sale and 3 days later, the unit arrived. Blew off the dust from my old XBOX, hooked it up but alas, I just can not get the HD outputs working.

picture 1: the installation, component cable coming from the XBOX, VGA cable going to my full HD LED TV

picture 2: the image is already "cut off" and not stretched to the screen

picture 3 : same in EVOX

picture 4 : I've enabled the NTSC output on my modded (PAL) XBOX and also enabled all the HD settings

picture 5 : inserted my Crash Nitro Kart CD into the XBOX, was surprised that it still worked but again, no HD (720p or 1080i)

To be honest : it's been a long time since I last booted my XBOX and my knowledge of the configuration settings has dwindled a little. But if somebody should have some suggestions or some pointers where I could look?

thanks !!!
/dimi

Try disabling 480p. I think that then any programs that can run in 720p will.

You may have a 1.6 Xbox. This may mean you can't get VGA but if you have a special converter, it might work.

hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I did try it before but tried it again yesterday evening and alas, the same result : disabled the widescreen 480p mode and left the other ones enabled, restarted my XBOX and started Crash Nitro Kart again > still the smaller screen unfortunately.

But euhm, a 1.6 XBOX? Anyway to check this? And I thought this X2VGA2 was meant to do exactly that? Being the special hardware needed to output HD on VGA?

thanks!!!

It may be the VGA device you are using that is making the picture smaller. Have you got a TV that accepts component video connectors so we can rule out that the Xbox is the problem.
Yeah, in the 1.6 Xbox, Microsoft used the XCALIBUR video encoder which is an OEM custom chip without any documentation so VGA cannot be hacked on the 1.6. The VGA mod is hard and complicated anyway. There is a version checker for your Xbox if you open it. If you can't open it, the version will be 1.6 if it was made after 2004.
Have you tried this converter on anything else that uses component?

hi there,

My apologies for the delayed reply : only had time this morning to test it out.
But thanks a lot again for the helpful suggestion : don't know why I didn't try it out like this but indeed, hooking it up with that component cable [directly], will give me 480p in the EvoX menu, 1080i in XBMC and 720p in Crash Nitro Kart.
Thanks also for the info, didn't know that and thought that all XBOX'es could output 720p (so I guess mine is +1.6?)
So, everything works as expected, I'll update my XBMC to the latest build but I'm still wondering why that X2VGA2 isn't working... Oh well.. Thanks again P'man Smile

No, all Xboxes can output HD, but PAL machines need converting to NTSC. Yours is already NTSC so that isn't a problem.
If you have any other component outputs, try using it on them. I doubt it has anything to do with your Xbox.

hi there again,

Pardon me for the delayed reply : I've managed to screw up my XBOX Smile See my other post in this forum Smile

But thanks for the help once more, it had indeed nothing to do with my XBOX after all > I think that the X2VGA2 box I bought is broken unfortunately Sad But a component cable works (as expected)
