I found the X2.6, I'm sure I'll find a programmer...

You probably dont wanna hear this but junk the chip and softmod the sucker and be done with it. This is a perfect example of why a chip isnt easier than a softmod.

While a softmod is easier to install, in the long run you get a lot more out of a mod chip. He already has the chip, so I think he should install it. _________________

Thats a falacy other than the HDD lock requirement theres nothing you can do chipped you cant softmodded. NKPatcher has made softmod virtualy equivalent to chip, in the old days with PBL and UXE what you say would be accurate.
Chipping allows you to be lazy in a sense where as a softmod to perform properly and be maintained requires you to learn how an XBOX actualy works.

I guess we can agree to disagree then
I've had 3 softmod Xboxes and 2 chipped ones, and I'd work with the chipped ones anyday over the softmodded ones. If the chipped one goes down the crapper, I pop in AID and I'm back on my feet. If my softmod goes down the crapper, I have to resoftmod, or hotswap, or something else. While it isn't difficult to fix a problem that comes up with a softmod, it is so much faster to fix the same problem with a chip. Which is why I say if he already owns the chip, why not use it? _________________

I agree if you have a working chip use it, but from the sounds of things theres a very real chance the chip is the issue here.
As for repairs think of it like this. Reflash BIOS= Re-do Softmod, Checking Points/Re Solder= Pimped Rebuild, Poping in AID = SID5 Pimped V7/E22 Fix Disc or Spoof Disc +. Not to hijack your thread Prehistoricman, but the reason you cant just pop in AID alot of times with soft is the boot time, after 30 seconds no dash usualy the XBOX will auto boot error 7, you need to use a quick loading boot disc.
@Prehistoricman
Realhypnotix and User1 both are big into chipping they may have the programmer and or any spare parts and chips you may need. Before pulling your hair out searching Id suggest PM them and see. Also since parts are pretty rare, if you decide this ones dead Id suggest keeping an eye out for an older XBOX (v1 to v4) and you can just TSOP it, exact same as a chip only no chip

You can wage war about soft and hardmods on my thread.
I'd rather have one of the crystal versions because I know they are all 1.6. I thought I knew they'd have the same drives in but I was proved wrong. One had Samsung DVD and WD HDD and the other had Thomson DVD and Seagate HDD.
Personally, I prefer modchips because I can understand it easily. Softmods confuse me a bit.

In worst case scenario, if you cant get a programmer you can softmod the XBOX and use AID or Evox to load the chip then remove the mod and just run the chip. Works perfect with TSOP so Im sure it would work with chip

User1 hasn't responded to my message and realhypnotix apparently isn't a user...

Still working on this Xbox. Yesterday, I lifted a trace when removing a solder point. I am now trying to solderit back together. But I need some advice on how to get solder to stick to traces. I have scraped the green plastic, but the solder will not stick and every time I try, I burn the mobo a bit more.

I have finished the mod successfully now. I cheated :3
I exevtually made a contact with solder. Then, it still didn't work so I looked at where my D0 and the other point near there was and I discovered the other point was disconnected and the with from D0 to a resistor was pulled right off the board, so I bought some conductive ink and reconnected it.
