Greetings from Argentina, I bought an xbox 1.6
when it starts it show "evoX" with an animation intro, if I put a dvd it starts, if I not put dvd hd autorun start
I not sure if I have a softmod or a modchip installed, evoX is a softmod? (please excuse me if this totally wrong)
I installed AID 4.53 (the first launcher that can be setup on disk, I not remember the name with orange background) I installed it after put "format on all units" and later installed apps and emus from aID ok and that works ok
But I cannot install evolutionX dashboard or another one (when try to start from hd it loops restarts some seconds later infinitely)
Same with xbmc autoinstaller... (i not fully tested it)
some questions:
1) can I known what softmod or modchip this console have without open it with some button combination or something else? evo x logo (if I remember pink triangle background on logo) on upper appears with a nice intro at start of console power up. its enough info to help me to see what soft or mod chip I have?
2) can I put iso files or in some folder to not use cds? iso2xbm or something else is to do this? (something that I put a dvd on xbox drive and put "copy it and create a link"?)
3) can I put evolutionX dashboard avoiding that this dashboard setup not loop restart console?
4) this console come with a audio/video cable (not ypbcr), with this cable can use wide screen or I have to buy a hd pack or component cable?
5) it have standard/factory 8gb drive, if I put a 160 gb ide disk I have to do something special? recommended tut to follow this in the most easy way?
6) I have only 1 controller, and buy a used one witouth select and start and a rounded terminal, it can be a xbox joystick? its similar but with 4 buttons on top (two more that standard) so weird I cannot see a similar joystick and I suppose it have to be a xbox one, have black and white buttons below ABXY, memory slot and so... but not sure if it needs and breakaway cable to connect to xbox and it works (still without start and back buttons?)
sorry for all the questions, I read too much this last 3 days but I found too much info and disordered in time (something that was writed in 2004 in a tutorial now in 2011 can be easy with another method that I not see before)
thanks for any help (at least say seach "xbox hd iso" on google" and I will be happy if that guide me to a correct article to follow)

Welcome to the site! Lets gets started with your questions:
1. To me it sounds like your Xbox is chipped. If you open your Xbox up you can see if it is chipped or not. Look on the left side of the motherboard. If it is chipped, you should see a circuit board soldered onto the motherboard. If you don't know what to look for, take the Xbox apart and post a picture of the motherboard and we can tell you if it is chipped or not.
2. Once you get a dashboard on the Xbox like UnleashX or Evox, you can FTP to your Xbox from your computer without having to use disks. A guide to FTP can be found here:http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-279.html
3. You can use AID to install the evolution X dashboard. However, you need to first find out if your Xbox is chipped or not.
4. You will need to buy the HD cable to be able to play use the Xbox in widescreen resolutions.
5. Yes, you can install a larger hard drive. Depending on if you have a chip or not, the process will be different. Once we know if you are chipped or not, I can further point you in the right direction on this question.

Darth is right the only sure fire way to tell is pop that sucker open. If its a softmod and you cant get it to boot AID, E22 Fix Disc or XBMC Spoof Disc+ then your only option is to open it and hotswap the drive and rebuild using Pimped or XBOXHDM and virgin dash files or DPNdure.

6. You might be looking at the fatty controller. Give us a link or picture of what you are looking at.

And there are lots of third party controllers that dont look exactly like the M$ ones. I have a Hip-Street one that has 4 buttons on the back instead of just the 2 triggers.
