One more thread for this common problem ...

Hello guys! I hope to find some needful advice here.

First some BIOS-Checker informations:
chip type lpc based (SST 49LF020)
genuine BIOS X2 4983.67 (256k I presume for infos from Config Magic)
MD5 29EF6F8014A5C409AE698A91064181DB (hope there's no typo)

So, what's up? The box is PAL but switched to NTSC (I used the Enigmah) and so far this is set in XBMC and MS Dash. But in the video setup I cannot activate any of the HD modes. In XBMC "Settings -> System -> Video" I may choose from Normal, Letterbox and Widescreen, "Enable 480p", "… 720p" and "… 1080i" are greyed out and unavailable. MS Dash gives me the same options as I have whe I use the standard composit cable (Normal, Letterbox, Widescreen).

What I wanted to do and what I tried:
I wanted to hook up the XBMC to my HDready via component cable. The TV supports 576p, 720p and 1080i at the component-in.

First I bought a cheap component cable at ebay but didn't got any picture. Not even when I connected Y (green) to a yellow composit-in. Because of the limitation of my TV I hooked up the XBOX to the FullHD of my brother in law. Same thing there.

So I got myself an original MS HD AV and tried again. I was able to see a flashing hard-to-read image by connecting Y to composit. But still in MS Dash I have no options to activate 720p in the video settings, in XBMC these settings are still grey to.

XBMC "system info -> video" says A/V cable: SCART when the HD AV pack is connected, S-Video when I use the original composit cable.

Has anyone of you here an idea how I could get this thing to work? I only need 720p output, since my TV can't handle 480p and the xbox will suffer from rendering 1080i output.

Is there a way to force 720p anyhow, maybe in guisettings.xml or with an advanced.xml or whatever its name is? Editing the guisettings and ftp it back on didn't work. Wink

The xbox is also modded with digital audio-out (electrical, coax). Is it possible, the guy who did this screwed something up? He has an shop for chip mods for years and keeps saying he did it several dozens of times. I tend to believe him. But could this be the source of my problems?

Hi mate,

As you probably already know PAL xboxes DO NOT support HD.
I would use a program called Enigmah-X Video Selector (which is on Auto Installer Deluxe) to make sure you are running NTSC mode for sure.

Once you have confirmed you are running NTSC i would then boot to your normal M$ dashboard and you should have options for 720p.. I have a PAL 360 too and i had to do the same thing eg. change to NTSC mode.

hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. Honestly.

But I said it in the topic and in my post to prevent exactly this kind of answer:

Maybe I explained it too detailed or I didn't say it right. (From my point of view English is a foreign language.) Wink

To add sth. to my first post: I eventually wiped the hdd and reinstalled msdash and (a clean) xbmc. I still had not the options for enabling any hd mode. I used AID 4.5 and in the menu it reads the video mode set to NTSC M. In one diagnostic tool like Config Magic iirc it reads Region 4. Maybe this should be Region 1? Ist there a way to switch it? XBMC ist set to Central Europe.

Now I nearly bite my desk. I spend days searching the internet for a solution. In every place I could find a) buy Monster or genuine MS component cables and|or b) use Enigmah to switch PAL-box to NTSC, which I did both. I'm not used to ask for such things because in the past I could solve nearly every problem by searching the net and find the answer. I never was the only and first one in the world with a particular problem so there were no reasons to bother someone else with questions. This starts to frustrate me.

Hi dexterdx1,

Sorry about my reply but sometimes skim through posts very late at night and misinterpret them..

I think its weird that your having problems but like you have mentioned it could be something region specific. I myself am from australia.. If i get a chance i will get a spare xbox here and see if i can configure it for HD AV like i use to.

Im very busy running the network sites plus trying to work and be sick all at once so please forgive me if i was not helpful in my previous post.. I'll do my best to format a spare xbox 1 here with the latest AID or XBMC AID and let you know my findings. I still have my HD AV pack here somewhere Smile

anyone else got some input??

I've got 3 Xboxes now and all exhibit the same issue. To my knowledge, they are all Region 1 boxes (NTSC). I suspect the GameStop cable as the issue - XBMC reports A/V Cable as SCART but the dashboard refuses to let me choose 480p or higher.
the 480i out of the box looks messed up as well.

Is there a good source for reliable cables?
