I am looking at modding my xbox. I want something very easy, and a solderless modchip looks easiest. I am looking at the Xecuter XAPT3R. Any opinions on this one, any others better that this chip?
Also, is it difficult to install a large harddrive into the xbox as well. I tried finding the answer to that, but i couldnt find it anywhere. Any links?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

A lot of people i talk to have gone the solderless route, and all say at one point or another the adapter pops off the mainboard and you gotta keep re-seating it. I would recommend having someone solder it.

As for the HD, there are autoinstallers in the VIP downloads that will help get you up and running...

There are plenty of people here who can help you with specifics, but since I didnt have the time nor patience to learn to chip my own machine, I sent my xb to realmccloy to hook up for me. Definately worth giving a thought if your unsure on the process or dont have the time to learn it. check this thread...\/

I have a Xenium ICE installed using the solderless adapter, and it's worked great so far. As jundox said, though, at some point it'll probably wiggle-jiggle its way off of the solder-filled points and I'll have to rip everything apart again to pop it back on.

The best way to install a chip is using the pin-header. Development Xboxes come with a pin-header already installed on them, so it's not a big surprise that this is the most effective route to go.

Soldering isn't nearly as scary as everyone wants you to think. Just get the right equipment (good iron, solder, and braid available for around $20 total), and take your time, reading as much info as possible before you start. Patience is the key.

Good luck with whatever route you decide to go, and let us know if you need any help!

I also have a solderless modchip, its the chamleon and you cant pick it up anymore, but it has worked since I put it in over a year ago. I've dropped the xbox, travelled with it, andm ove it around all the time, not one problem.

JUst make sure that you properlly instale it and tighten the chip down all the way.

Cap's tutorial is probably one of the best around! It really gives you a lot of info on the Xenium Ice.

Some people have great results with solderless chips, others don't. It's a toss up, but it is true that the pin header install is the most reliable and most professional way to go.

Also, take note if you have a 1.6 machine (I didnt catch if you named your version) you have extra work to do. The LPC area needs rebuilt and this involves some soldering. If you are not wanting to do there are many modders whom will do it for you.

Just make a post for some help and pricing. I am in the US, but we have members in the UK, Australia, and all over.

I've been hearing a lot about those spider chips....

Solderless for the 1.6 is a concept that intrigues me... I'll have to pick one of those up to play with....just for one of my personal machines that I keep telling myself that I will find time to chip.

I'm still counting the days till my Xbox Media Center Extender Kit comes in. It was shipped to me via UPS. I grabbed it on ebay for only $60.00, which I thougth was a steal since it retails at 79.99 on the xbox site.

I havent' seen it anywhere at local stores though. I have too many toys and no friggin time to play with them. How pathetic is that?

Ha, see my problem is that I just dont have the time to play around with my toys anymore. Real life isnt as much fun as college life I tell ya. NOt as many girls, not as much time for toys, and a hangover at work is a lot worse than a hangover in class..... Very Happy

Oh well time to grow up I guess Confused

Ahhhh the good ole days. I haven't had a beer in years...I'm telling you dude... I can't even get drunk anymore. I get sick before I get drunk. I went through everything and got sick on EVERYTHING. So now, even the smell of booze or beer makes me gag.

The only thing I had left was Tequilla. It was the only thing that in my 15 years of drinking that I didn't get sick on. Then a buddy came into town and we went out. Three of us finished two bottles of Sauza. First time in my entire life that I was seeing six of everything... It was the illest I ever got, but yet only slighly more ill than the infamouns Southern Comfort incident.

It took me four days to recover! That was about three years ago. I haven't drank since...lol. I gave up all my vices.... I thought I'd be a stoner till the day I died.... now, even if I am in the same room with someone toking up I pass out...lol! Now, that is when you know you're getting old bro! Every once in awhile I get 420 flashbacks.... I even get the munchies for Sheetz Chili Cheese dogs when it happens...ooohhh the good ole days....

Yeh i was dubious about them but am quite impressed, they really do come well packaged, easy as hell to fit, and support for all mobos and gen 4 to boot.

I wanna stock those xecuter replacement front panels when they come out, the ones with all the led's and lcd screen, mmm, he he

I gave up drinking 2 years, drunk every day for 3 years, then suddenly stopped, I still don't know why, I must have been drunk when i decided I guess.
