Today I downloaded XBMC Installer Deluxe 1.01 after reading good reviews and followed the manual. My Xbox was a softmod made using 007 several years ago and whilst it had 1 or 2 XMBC updates I thought it could do with a tidy up.
First of all I formatted the disk, I tried to unmount my C: drive and install the softmod apps but always had the same error : batch process failed, rename error.
Now I've rebooted to test the newly installed XBMC and script but apart from the initial Xbox logo, I get a 'Service Required' error message displayed.
I have no games or softmod tools. I only bought the Xbox for XMBC.
Any solutions about how to reinstall a freshly softmodded Xbox please?

OK firstly you shouldve unmounted the disk before formatting. The reason you do this is because if there is a virtual c drive on there, the format would only format the virtual c not the proper one.
What actual options did you use?
- Format
- Unmount
then what sections...?
It sounds like you didnt prepare your Xbox HDD properly before you rebooted it.

As per Chapter 6, I formatted and then prepped the retail disk.
With Chapter 7 I then tried a one click install for softmod
but was recommended I unmount the C: drive first
I went to the softmod section (Chapter 11) and unmounted the drive and then tried the single softmod install but that failed (batch process failed, rename error. iirc)
I then went to the one click softmod installation and that again suggested I unmount c: first which I did
I then tried the one click softmod installation and that failed too.
I tried the last 4 steps about 3-4 times before trying a full powercycle which left me where I am

OK I think I've figured it out.
Looks like whats happened is since you use a different softmodding system, it probably didnt make you back up your original Xbox Dashboard before softmodding (SID has made you do this since the beginning).
So this is what's happened:
- You formatted C and unmounted.
- Select edthe Softmod One-Click Install
Now, my install script formats c drive (so really you didnt need to manually format, but that was ok), installs the gamesave from the XBMCID DVD, then tries to copy the backed up Xbox Dashboard to C. Now, since there wasnt anything there, it would've caused to script to spit out an error.
- Reboot with half-bricked Xbox.
So basically what you need to do is rebuild your C Drive. There are probably a few ways it can be done, but here's one suggestion:
- You need a copy of the Xbox Dashboard and be able to FTP to your Xbox.
- See if your Xbox can boot 007 Agent under Fire and launch the gamesave, if you can we're nearly there.
- Once the gamesave has loaded, you should be able to FTP to your XBox and hopefully copy over the Xbox dashboard. Copy it to both C:\ and E:\Backup\MS
See how you go with that...
