So this has happened to two of my xboxs now, I had it softmodded with Virtual C drive, XBMC loaded all is well for months on end...never any issue, then my Nephew came over played a game from the DVD disc, and now it just boots to MS dash. I tried to get back into SID but the Splinter Cell just reboots itself when trying to load the linux hack and won't load SID??

So again it happened again on a different Xbox, They dont allow my AID disc anymore..shows as an unrecognized disc.

Is there a way to get around this? I was thinking maybe a way to clear out all the cache or something so I can try the softmod again?

Thanks for your help.

AHHHHHHHH

I think what may have happened here is the disc updated your MS Dash causing it to load back to the original dash.

What you need to do, is re download the SID files and delete them from your saves on the xbox and put a fresh new copy on there, and then try and load it again and just reinstall your XBMC dashboard and you should be good to go. If this doesn't work, we may need top remove the whole softmod and reinstall from scratch.

I havent played with my xbox for a while but your gamesaves (softmod) files should still be there.. Try booting mech, splinter cell etc and install the softmod again.

If the saves are missing from your hdd you may need to re-do from scratch.

Post subject: Similar problem, but worse

Hi there,

I've had a similar problem, but I think it's escalated into something much worse. I've had my xbox softmodded for over a year and had no problems (Splinter Cell version). Then one day, I made the huge error of buying the dvd for the movie "King Arthur", which apparently has some sort of xbox demo/bomb on it. As soon as I put it in to watch the movie, it started doing some sort of update, and when it restarted, my softmod had disappeared. I could find no way to get it back, so I finally re-installed the softmod, which worked fine.

So, next mistake... I again attempted to watch the King Arthur dvd, this time bypassing the autorun by loading it through XBMC, which also worked very well. But unfortunately, I'm an idiot. I forgot to remove the dvd when I was finished. So of course, the next day, I turn on my xbox, and King Arthur strikes again... No softmod. After destroying the dvd in a terrible rage, I once again attempted to reinstall the softmod. But something went wrong. The softmod didn't work, and I tried to restore the xbox to it's original state (using the auto-installer disk). I'm not sure exactly what I did, but after that, I once again went in through the save game, the softmod installation started, but it failed near the end, giving me these messages:

Invalid comma...
Unable to execute command.
Item:
Action: Delete

Then...

FAILURE
Batch process failed.
the last item was: .
Action: Delete

So now I'm stuck. The xbox is working fine as a normal xbox, but every time I attempt to use the savegame to softmod, it automatically goes to a page saying something like "Press A to complete the Softmod", then the softmod fails with that message, and I can't do anything else. I also can't ftp into the xbox, I'm assuming because it's not softmodded anymore.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do? I really miss my XBMC. And as a word of advice, keep King Arthur the hell away from your xbox!

Thanks!

First you might need an xbox live game with out the Ethernet cable hooked up and go in like your going on live to do a dash update, then try the softmod and make sure you back up the eeprom.

The XBOX in my son's room is doing the same thing as OP. The XBOX had no power to it all night. When I plugged it back in the next morning it booted back to MS dash. I deleted the SID files and reinstalled them but Splinter Cell keeps rebooting and not going into Linux mode to reinstall the softmod. Please help. Thanks!

Did you check to make sure the MS dash is 5960 and have you removed all other save files but the sid 5 and game save?

OK, now I'm lost. I went ahead and ran xboxhdm. Formatted and rebuilt C, E, and F. Now when I run Splinter Cell it boots into softmod installer. But it just keeps restarting the installer and I can't back up the EEPROM and MS dash to continue to install the sotfmod. I thought all the drives were formatted but I still have game saves.
