What colour are the light in sequence like flashing orange or flashing red and green?
You could transfer the eeprom from your broken MoBo to the replacement one so that your locked drive would work with your replacement MoBo need moderate soldering experience eeprom is near you modchip it has six legs. I think that would solve your prob about your locked HDD need conformation from sir wes213

Flashing orange and red means that
"Flashing Red and Orange (Amber) Video display problem, check cord. Also try switching to another video mode by changing the cable. I currently have an Xbox that displays this error when connected to the standard composite video cable but boots fine when connected to a RF adapter cord."

Did you try cleaning the video socket? if that dont work look on the MoBo near the video encoder chip the one near the video socket and look for any physical damage like broken traces, residue or any solder splashes
Did you install any video output mods like VGA socket or RCA socket to your xbox if so try looking at their wiring for any shorts
Edit: I was reading and the orange red falshing can also be caused
by broken traces under the modchip where the pinheader is underneath that check there also arround there it said that it can also be caused ny the reset signal not making contact ( IE: a broken trace )
